The Secret to Highly Authentic Flavor in Vaping Devices: Organic Cotton

Vaping devices have been around for about 15 years since their invention, and as the industry has developed, consumers have demanded a more authentic cigarette-like taste. During the e-liquid vaporization process, one crucial factor is the material used i
The development of electronic cigarettes has spanned approximately 15 years, and as the technology has evolved, consumers have raised their expectations for the taste of e-cigarettes to mimic that of traditional cigarettes.

A critical factor in the atomization of e-liquid is the material of the atomizer core, which significantly affects the user experience. Excellent oil-conducting materials must meet high standards for their structure, oil absorption rate, heat resistance, and the ability to absorb and store e-liquid, thus playing a decisive role in flavor restoration.

Currently, pure cotton non-woven fabric is the mainstream oil-conducting material in the industry, benefiting from its natural structure and properties. The chemical structure of cotton fiber macromolecules is formed by beta-D-glucose linked by 1,4-glycosidic bonds (see Figure 1), which gives it high polymerization and crystallinity, resulting in high strength, while the hydroxyl groups in its structure provide high water absorption.

However, due to differences in origin, material, and processing, cotton can vary in oil storage capacity, oil conduction speed, and heat resistance, which directly affects the atomization effect of the atomizer on the e-liquid and the restoration of its flavor. To ensure the accuracy of the research data, the Hengxin CNAS laboratory studied different types of cotton. The results are shown in Table 1.

As seen in Table 1, different production processes can significantly impact oil conduction rates and flavor; moreover, cotton fibers from different origins also have different flavor profiles. Currently, American cotton has the best flavor, achieving a balance in saturated absorption and oil conduction rates.

During the process of inhaling e-cigarettes, insufficient oil supply can lead to dry burning of the oil-conducting material. If the heat resistance of the oil-conducting material is poor, it can result in a "burnt core" phenomenon, severely affecting the smoker's experience and the lifespan of the atomizer core. Therefore, analyzing the heat resistance of oil-conducting materials is also essential.

Thermogravimetric analysis is a thermal analysis technique that measures the relationship between the mass and temperature changes of a sample under controlled temperature conditions to study the thermal stability of materials. Using a dynamic method, simultaneous thermogravimetric analysis curves and differential thermogravimetric analysis are obtained to analyze the relationship between material thermal stability and temperature changes.

Thus, Hengxin conducted thermogravimetric analysis tests on several representative non-woven fabric samples, with data shown in Table 2, and compared and analyzed it with saturated absorption and oil conduction rate data.

From Table 2, it can be seen that pure cotton fiber non-woven fabric has a large saturated absorption capacity and good heat resistance, with a decomposition temperature reaching 360°C, while the heating temperature of e-cigarettes is between 200°C and 300°C. Therefore, using pure cotton non-woven fabric with a high decomposition temperature is less likely to result in a burnt core.

The WILL technology developed by Hengxin Technology Group uses pure, certified natural "organic cotton," removing impurities such as cotton seeds, selecting long fibers with a neat structure and high density, and incorporating high oil conduction rate and heat-resistant fiber materials, significantly enhancing comprehensive performance in oil conduction, storage, and heat resistance.

During atomization, e-liquid is decomposed in multiple layers through the irregular fine holes in the organic cotton, and the flavor molecules released during heating produce three layers of release: top notes, middle notes, and base notes, achieving a high restoration of the e-liquid flavor.

Additionally, if the nicotine content is controlled below 20mg/g, the delivery effect of nicotine is crucial for enhancing consumer satisfaction. The WILL technology utilizes the structure of organic cotton to maximize the retention of nicotine molecules, allowing the e-liquid molecules carrying nicotine to be fully released, resulting in a stronger throat hit and satisfaction compared to other materials used in atomizer cores.

WILL technology has also conducted multiple temperature simulation experiments during its research process, effectively ensuring the accuracy of the temperature threshold, precisely controlling the temperature, and ensuring that every puff of e-liquid maintains a stable and rich flavor experience. Moreover, natural organic cotton is grown without any pesticides, is pollution-free, and is unbleached, making the heating and atomization process safer.

Some may argue that all cotton is essentially the same, falling into the realm of "vaping mysticism." Many beginners may not notice the subtle differences in flavor layers and taste, but after some time and a few experiences of "everything tastes the same," their taste sensitivity will sharpen, entering a state of "discerning the true."
