A Guide to Common Questions for Vaping Beginners
As someone who has been in the vaping scene for over two years, I encountered various professional questions when I first started. Experienced vapers taught me how to wrap coils, make cotton wicks, and blow smoke rings. Every beginner inevitably faces these bits of knowledge. By grasping the common knowledge below, you can impress novices with your expertise.
1. Flavor of E-Liquid:
In the previous issue, I introduced the flavors of e-liquids. You can search for {What are the classifications of e-liquids} on this website for detailed content. I will not cover it again in this issue.
2. Concentration of E-Liquid:
E-liquids are available in concentrations of (0mg), (3mg), (6mg), (12mg), (24mg), (36mg), and (48mg) of nicotine. The higher the number, the stronger the throat hit. In China, seasoned smokers typically use up to 24mg; we usually advise players that 12mg is sufficient, as more is not necessarily better. In Western countries, concentrations can go up to 48mg; I won't discourage that since strong Westerners can handle it.
I suggest that average users choose 3mg or 6mg, as that should be enough; a too strong throat hit can be harsh on the throat.
3. Flavor Variation in the Same E-Liquid:
Different production batches can lead to variations in flavor. Various objective reasons, such as stirring, heating, and steeping, can affect the taste of e-liquids, but they should be relatively similar. More importantly, if you change devices while using the same e-liquid, the flavor will definitely differ.
4. Shelf Life and Storage of E-Liquid:
The shelf life of e-liquids on the market is generally around 12 months. In reality, as long as they are kept sealed, e-liquids can still be used beyond 12 months. Pay attention to proper storage; if you notice that the e-liquid starts to irritate your throat, stop using it.
5. Sweet Taste on the Tongue from Vaping:
I believe every vaper has encountered this issue at the beginning. The reason is that e-liquid has been overfilled. Avoid filling the tank more than one-third full. If you get e-liquid in your mouth, shake the device to expel the excess and wipe it clean with a paper towel.
6. Leaking Atomizer:
First, consider the quality of the atomizer. If you buy a 20 yuan electronic device versus a 200 yuan one, the leaking issue will definitely differ. For beginners, when not using the device, ensure it is stored correctly to avoid leaks. Also, remember not to overfill; one-third is sufficient. Consider buying a stainless steel bottle for refilling, so you won't run out of e-liquid when you're out. Additionally, close the airflow when refilling, and tighten the fill port after adding e-liquid. If leaks persist, reassemble the cotton slowly and tighten it again.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced vaper, these are the general issues regarding leaks.
7. Choosing an Atomizer:
For beginners, using a pre-made atomizer is the most convenient. Those with good manual skills can try DIY atomizers like KF5, KF3, Wuziqi, and Da She Mini, which are relatively easy to operate and provide good flavor. For dripping, you can choose models like Mian Sha 3.0, Kennedy, or Hobo V3.1.
8. Cleaning the Atomizer:
For a new atomizer, soaking it in hot water or cleaning it with alcohol is fine. I tend to be lazy, so whenever I finish a tank and prepare to change flavors, I just rinse the glass tank with clean water. If you're meticulous, you can use alcohol. Just wipe the other parts with a paper towel.
9. Burnt Taste:
If the e-liquid has a burnt taste, let me ask you a few questions: Is the oil flow smooth (high VG ratio)? Is the wick saturated? Is the wattage too high? Is there too much or too tightly packed cotton? If you avoid these issues, I doubt you will still get a burnt taste. Just so you know, flavors like coffee and caramel are prone to carbon buildup and burnt wicks.
10. Cracks in Acrylic Tanks:
The main reason for cracks is likely a high VG ratio. Consider buying a glass or stainless steel tank instead.
11. Are E-Cigarettes Harmful?:
Harm is inevitable; it's best not to smoke at all. E-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than traditional cigarettes; you can feel the difference yourself.
12. Atomizer Resistance Jumping Issues:
Check if the wire angles are hitting anything; it's best to reassemble it. Check if there are any black substances on the electrode screws; if so, soak them in vinegar and clean them with a toothbrush.
13. Wick Material:
Commonly used materials include Japanese cotton, Muji cotton, which is affordable and good quality. When it comes to Japanese cotton, Jenny is always happy. Some newcomers have been misled by experienced vapers saying my Japanese cotton is makeup cotton, which is garbage and not suitable for e-cigarettes. This article is essential for newcomers lacking knowledge.
