August 24 news report: According to Taiwan's United Daily News, a patient in Illinois developed a severe lung illness after using e-cigarettes and ultimately died. Illinois health authorities believe this may be the first e-cigarette-related death reported in the United States.

According to reports, on the 23rd, Illinois health director Reden said the death case was reported on the 22nd. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on the 23rd that the number of patients who developed severe lung disease after vaping had risen to at least 193, with cases now spread across 22 states nationwide.

However, the CDC pointed out that the exact cause of the illness has not yet been determined. Infectious disease has currently been ruled out.

It is understood that related cases began to appear in late June, but the number surged over the past week, possibly because some cases previously not identified as related to e-cigarettes have now been reclassified as associated with vaping.
