Harvard study finds: more than 80% of vapes contain toxins!
According to the report, Harvard researchers tested 75 popular vaping products and found that 27% contained “endotoxins from gram-negative bacteria,” while 81% contained “glucans derived from fungi.” Both toxins are associated with a number of human health problems, especially asthma, reduced lung function, and inflammation.

Among them, vaping products using cartridges showed glucan concentrations 3.2 times higher than products using e-liquid, and glucan concentrations in tobacco- and menthol-flavored products were also significantly higher than in fruit-flavored products.

As for the cause, Harvard found that fruit-flavored products had higher endotoxin concentrations, suggesting that the raw materials used to produce flavorings may be a source of microbial contamination.

A professor of environmental genetics stated: “Airborne endotoxins from gram-negative bacteria and glucans derived from fungi have been shown to cause acute and chronic respiratory effects in occupational and environmental settings.”

Harvard also noted that vaping use in the United States has been steadily rising in recent years, especially among high school and middle school students. It is estimated that more than 3 million high school students used vaping products in 2018, an increase of 2.78 million compared with 2011.
