Is vaping harmful to sperm?
Recent studies show that men who vape have lower reproductive ability and sperm quality compared to regular men, increasing their chances of infertility. Even if e-cigarettes do not contain nicotine, the chemical components added for flavoring can also reduce sperm count.
Denmark conducted a study on the effects of cigarettes and e-cigarettes on male reproductive function, involving about 2017 men. The study first had participants fill out a questionnaire (including whether e-cigarettes contain nicotine, frequency of use, fertility issues, reproductive health issues, etc.) and underwent comprehensive physical examinations, including analyses of reproductive hormones and semen, followed by a comprehensive analysis.
The results showed that about half of the men smoked occasionally or daily, 13% used e-cigarettes, 25% used snuff, and 33% used marijuana. Smoking men had higher total testosterone levels but lower sperm density, while among e-cigarette users, their semen quality, sperm density, and sperm count were also lower, with most of them using e-cigarettes containing nicotine. Among snuff users, hormone levels varied. Marijuana users had higher total testosterone and free testosterone levels than non-smokers.
Focusing on e-cigarettes, they mainly consist of three parts: a tube containing nicotine solution, an evaporation device, and a battery. The atomizer is powered by the battery rod, which can turn the liquid nicotine in the cartridge into vapor, allowing users to experience a sensation similar to smoking. Although e-cigarettes do not contain tar and many other harmful substances found in traditional cigarettes, we understand that compared to non-smokers, daily e-cigarette users have lower sperm count and density, affecting testicular function.
Is vaping harmful to sperm? In conclusion, studies show that both smokers and men who use e-cigarettes are related to sperm quality. For families planning to conceive, this research is crucial. Many people believe that vaping is generally less harmful, but after reading this article, I hope everyone can pay enough attention to health during pregnancy planning to avoid factors that could negatively affect the fetus, ensuring the birth of a healthy baby.
