Man Detained After Vaping in Airplane Lavatory on Fuyang Flight

Reporters learned from Fuyang police on the 6th that at around 16:20 on September 5, several officers from the Airport Branch of the Fuyang Public Security Bureau entered the apron and quickly escorted away a man from Flight KN5911, which had flown from Beijing Nanyuan Airport to Fuyang.

It turned out that 20 minutes before the aircraft arrived at Fuyang Airport, the Airport Branch of the Fuyang Public Security Bureau received a report from the airport tower dispatch room that someone had been using an e-cigarette in the lavatory on that flight and had been discovered by the cabin crew. The Airport Branch took the matter very seriously, immediately activated its emergency response plan, and quickly completed the handover procedure with the crew of Flight KN5911.

After investigation, the suspect, surnamed Shen, male, 41, from Funan County, had a long history of smoking. Because the flight was delayed, he experienced nicotine cravings and hid in the aircraft lavatory to secretly use the e-cigarette he was carrying. Shen had made a special trip from Beijing back to Fuyang mainly to take his child to school. Unexpectedly, in trying to satisfy a momentary craving, he not only failed to personally take his child to school, but also faced serious legal punishment. Shen expressed deep regret and said he would never make the same mistake again. Officers from the airport police branch gave Shen a stern warning and educational reprimand, and in accordance with the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Administrative Penalties for Public Security, imposed a five-day administrative detention and confiscated the e-cigarette used in violation of the rules.
