Chengdu Wenjiang Launches Joint Inspection of the Vaping Market

Originally a smoking cessation alternative, electronic cigarettes carry significant health and safety risks, especially the potential to induce young people to become smokers, which cannot be underestimated. To earnestly implement the work deployment of the Sichuan Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Bureau and the Sichuan Provincial Market Supervision Administration regarding special inspections of the electronic cigarette market, continuously strengthen the regulation and standardization of the electronic cigarette market, and further protect minors from the harm of electronic cigarettes, the Chengdu Wenjiang District Market Supervision Administration has recently launched a special inspection action in conjunction with the District Tobacco Monopoly Bureau.
 
This special inspection action began on July 10, 2020, and will end on September 10, 2020, lasting for two months. The main contents of the inspection include a comprehensive cleanup of electronic cigarette information on the internet, cleaning up internet sales of electronic cigarettes to prevent rebranding and disguised sales. A comprehensive inspection of physical electronic cigarette stores will be conducted, strictly investigating the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors and the publication of false and illegal electronic cigarette advertisements by physical stores; a comprehensive inspection of physical stores to ensure compliance with explicit commitment requirements. A thorough inspection of new channels such as electronic cigarette vending machines will be conducted, focusing on the sale of electronic cigarettes through various new sales channels, and thoroughly cleaning up vending machines for electronic cigarettes in areas concentrated with minors, such as around primary and secondary schools.

As of now, the Wenjiang District Market Supervision Administration has conducted a comprehensive inspection of merchants in Zhujiang International and has initiated an investigation into one electronic cigarette seller suspected of advertising violations found during the inspection.
 
A relevant person in charge of the Wenjiang District Market Supervision Administration stated that the next step will be to continue deepening the regulation of the electronic cigarette market, smooth complaint and reporting channels, effectively leverage departmental synergy, adhere to co-construction, co-governance, and sharing, and work together to protect the healthy growth of young people.
