Hainan Includes Vaping in Tobacco Control Signage

Hainan has incorporated vaping into tobacco control signage standards, requiring no-smoking signs to include e-cigarettes and mandating warning labels for vaping product sales.
Recently, Hainan Province issued the Standards for the Production and Posting of No-Smoking Signs (Trial) and the Standards for the Setup of Smoking Areas (Trial), incorporating vaping-related elements into tobacco control signage and making it clear that e-cigarette sales outlets must also post warning signs in accordance with the rules.

According to the standards, the basic design of no-smoking signs must use the internationally recognized no-smoking symbol, including vaping elements. On that basis, different layouts may be used depending on the venue. All places where smoking is prohibited under relevant laws and regulations must display no-smoking signs and warning messages; tobacco product sellers must post no-smoking signs in prominent locations at their tobacco sales premises.

For institutions with designated outdoor smoking areas, the location of the smoking area must be indicated at the entrance. Smoking areas must display smoking area signs and health warnings about the harms of smoking.

According to the Hainan Province Regulations on Promoting Civilized Conduct, anyone who smokes (including e-cigarettes) in indoor public places, on public transportation, or in special venues such as schools, kindergartens, and medical and health institutions will be ordered to make corrections and fined 50 yuan; those who refuse to comply will be fined between 200 and 500 yuan.
