"Innovation is a byproduct of solving problems. For private technology enterprises, it is essential not only to know who your users are but also to understand their problems and pain points. The process of trying to solve these problems is innovation."
Recently, the first Innovation China 2018 Annual Selection Award Ceremony was held in Beijing. Among them, Wang Ying, CEO of Fog Core Technology, was awarded the "Innovation China 2018 Annual Emerging Entrepreneur" award. The growth trajectory of emerging entrepreneurs
How to define an excellent emerging entrepreneur?
They can be described in one sentence: "They are proactive learners with new ideas, eager to absorb wisdom from different fields; they possess pioneering thoughts and define this era with innovative entrepreneurial decisions."
This description fits Wang Ying perfectly.
Before founding Fog Core Technology, Wang Ying had already earned the label of an emerging entrepreneur. Not only does she have the aura of an MBA graduate from Columbia University, but she also has experience working in top international companies like Procter & Gamble and Bain & Company. She later became well-known in the media as the head of Uber China and the person in charge of Didi Uber and shared cars.
"Receiving this award today is very encouraging! Although I have only been an entrepreneur for a year and a half, we have invested significantly in research and development, which forms the foundation of our startup." Wang Ying told reporters that in 2018, she and her team founded Shenzhen Fog Core Technology Co., Ltd. and she took on the role of CEO. In less than two years, the R&D team has grown from a few people to over 30 expert researchers.
Additionally, due to the outstanding achievements of the company and individuals, as well as their remarkable contributions to public welfare in caring for the healthy growth of young people and poverty alleviation, in 2018, Wang Ying was also recognized by LinkedIn China as one of the "Most Followed Workplace Elites" and was awarded "Most Socially Responsible Entrepreneur" at the 6th China Entrepreneur Development Annual Conference.
Three key elements of innovation: talent, resources, and information
As a private technology entrepreneur, Wang Ying has her own understanding of innovation.
"Our users are spread across the globe, and they encounter various problems while using our products and receiving services. The process of discovering and attempting to solve these problems is the process of innovation," Wang Ying stated in an interview. She emphasized that companies must clarify who their service targets are. Integrating talent, resources, and information naturally becomes the three key elements of innovation for private technology enterprises. Only by addressing problems through these three elements can true innovation be achieved.
Wang Ying shared that Fog Core Technology has grown to a team of over 200 people, relying on a step-by-step commitment to innovative development. The team currently has an average age of under 30, with most members graduating from well-known domestic and international universities or coming from internationally renowned companies.
Wang Ying mentioned that adhering to the original intention of serving users and contributing to society, Fog Core Technology has applied for over 20 patents and received 8 patent authorizations in just a year and a half. The R&D team's professional divisions cover various fields, including biotechnology, organic synthesis, chemical analysis, pharmacology, toxicology, fragrance evaluation, and structural design, with each expert excelling in their respective fields.
Sticking to the original intention and engaging in public welfare
In addition to being a successful emerging entrepreneur, Wang Ying is also passionate about public welfare.
"We believe that a company's healthy growth should be proportional to its contributions to society," Wang Ying stated. She believes that when you are a small company, you should act within your means. As the company grows larger and the number of employees increases, it should take on social responsibilities within its capacity, and even more, to achieve a balanced development that is a healthy growth state.
During the interview, Wang Ying shared an experience. In the first six months of Fog Core Technology's startup, they conducted a small-scale poverty alleviation project for young people, mobilizing users and the company to provide winter warm packages for left-behind children in remote areas. In this public welfare action, she realized that left-behind children are not an abstract group name but consist of individual vibrant individuals with unique age structures, personality traits, and diverse needs.
"As our company grows from a dozen employees to over 200, we hope to mobilize all our colleagues to participate in more impactful public welfare activities," Wang Ying added. She also expressed the hope to engage in more public welfare activities in areas such as environmental protection as the company continues to grow, contributing more to society...
It is reported that this selection was organized by the Science and Technology Daily and undertaken by China Science and Technology Network, aiming to implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, seek innovative models, and promote the spirit of innovation. During the ceremony, the organizers presented trophies and certificates to the units and individuals who received awards in six categories, including emerging technology enterprises and emerging technology products, totaling 287 awards.
