Liao Changbin: A Tobacco Worker’s "Connection" with the Industry
Introduction: Comrade Liao Changbin was born in 1974, started working in 1995, and has been engaged in information technology since 2010. Before working in the information center, although Liao had some computer foundation, he felt overwhelmed by the complexity and professionalism of information technology work in the tobacco industry, even jokingly calling himself a "layman." He understood that in today's rapidly evolving information technology landscape, relying solely on his previous knowledge would not allow him to provide better information services. Therefore, he not only actively participated in various training organized by the company but also sacrificed his weekends to diligently self-study, gradually familiarizing himself with various systems, memorizing each command repeatedly, and learning various operations step by step. Over the past few years, he has lost count of how many computer professional books he has bought, how many sleepless nights he has endured, and how many times he has repeatedly operated and tested the systems. He has finally transformed from a "layman" into a computer "expert," with no problem too difficult for him, whether it be a colleague's computer, the unit's network, or the industry's systems. However, he believes that these efforts are not just for self-improvement but to better serve everyone with the knowledge he has acquired.
The heated tobacco information network: The informatization work of the tobacco industry in Yongzhou, Hunan, has developed rapidly in recent years and achieved significant results, providing strong support and impetus for the stable and rapid operation of the industry. Behind this is a small but highly skilled team of information professionals who are dedicated to their work. Comrade Liao Changbin from the Information Center of the Lanshan County Bureau of Yongzhou Tobacco is one of them.Diligent self-study, from "layman" to "expert"

Service first, from "professional service" to "dedicated service"
Information technology work is a fundamental task, yet it does not create the most direct economic benefits for the enterprise like tobacco leaf production and cigarette marketing. It even requires significant upfront investment, and due to the special nature of the job, information technology personnel often find themselves in an awkward position of being "indispensable when problems arise, but forgotten when there are none." However, Liao Changbin has never thought this way; he has always been proud of his work and gratified by his contributions. He has unique insights and views on his three years of work in this position: informatization work is also a service job, just as customer managers serve retailers and tobacco technicians serve farmers, informatization work serves every ordinary employee using a computer. Informatization services require more professionalism, caution, and patience. In the computer industry, there is a saying that "equipment has a price, but data is priceless." Whether it is important documents within the industry or colleagues' work materials, they are invaluable to users. Therefore, he always reminds himself that his service must be professional because only professional skills can solve professional problems; he always tells himself that his service must be dedicated because only dedication can solve problems without creating new ones. He not only maintains a large number of users' computer equipment but also ensures the efficient and stable operation of various systems and networks in the background, selflessly contributing to frontline positions to better serve customers.
Responsibility on his shoulders, from "office" to "purchase point"
Since there are still few people in Lanshan Tobacco who can operate computers proficiently, whenever a computer problem arises, everyone always turns to Liao Changbin for help, and he is always happy to assist. The year 2013 was a particularly challenging year for informatization work, as the entire city implemented loose leaf purchasing and launched a new integrated office platform. All computers in the bureau needed to be upgraded to the new platform, and before the purchasing period, the purchasing system and database upgrades had to be completed. Additionally, after the personnel system reform in Lanshan Tobacco, related personnel and operational data changed, which made Liao Changbin extremely busy. To ensure the normal operation of the system during the purchasing period, he worked tirelessly with technicians from Haisheng Company to install and debug the system, checking, repairing, debugging, and maintaining the purchasing equipment such as computers, electronic scales, electronic displays, printers, and UPS at all purchasing points. He ran back and forth between the company and the purchasing stations day and night, working until 1 a.m. for three consecutive days. Before the purchasing points opened, to help the computer operators become more proficient in operating the system, he also took the initiative to conduct training on system operation skills, explaining the changes in the upgraded modules in detail to improve the information system application skills of the purchasing team.
Liao Changbin is just an ordinary member among many information workers in the tobacco industry. He once said, "I have not created any earth-shattering achievements, nor do I have any glorious deeds. I am just a spider weaving a web quietly, and I am willing to weave my feelings for tobacco throughout my life." Indeed, he constantly surpasses himself in silence, working with full energy every day, selflessly dedicating his most precious youth to this work he loves. The achievements are already set in the past, and on the road ahead, he will continue to uphold loyalty to the "two supremacies," writing new glorious chapters in his future life!
