Nie Wenhai: The Hanyan Spirit Shines in the Details

 Introduction: Nie Wenhai, a worker in the packaging workshop of Shaanxi Zhongyan Hanzhong Cigarette Factory, is affectionately called "Old Nie" by his colleagues. He is not called "Old Nie" because of his age, but because of his exceptional welding skills and long experience in the field.

For every employee, contributing to the enterprise cannot just be a verbal commitment; the key is to reflect it through practical actions. The passion and struggle of employees are the source of vitality for the enterprise and the driving force for its development and innovation. In the packaging workshop of Shaanxi Zhongyan Hanzhong Cigarette Factory, there are two such employees: electrical welding technician Nie Wenhai and cold air technology supervisor Zhang Jianming. They work diligently, writing a story as beautiful as leaves.   Nie Wenhai: Composing an Extraordinary Life Song   Nie Wenhai is affectionately called "Old Nie" not because he is old, but because of his exceptional welding skills and extensive experience. At around 40 years old, he has been engaged in electric welding for over 20 years, making him a top expert among welders. His cutting and material preparation are precise, his shapes are aesthetically pleasing, and his weld seams are smooth. Calling him "Old Nie" is indeed fitting and not an exaggeration at all.   Nie Wenhai is taciturn and unpretentious; however, he is proactive and decisive at work. He has been in the welding position for over 20 years. Countless times he has been blinded by the arc light; countless times he has been burned by the hot metal; how many shirts have been discolored by the arc light; how many pairs of pants have been burned into "bee nests"; how many nights he has worked overtime until his eyes were bloodshot; how many times he has worked through lunch, soaking his clothes with sweat. Each of these experiences seems to test him, but fortunately, he has always approached his work with a sense of reverence, passing the tests with pride. The flickering arc light and the flying welding sparks demonstrate his charming demeanor as an ordinary welder.   One of Nie Wenhai's favorite sayings is: "If I am going to work, I will do my best. The welding pieces I make cannot be a laughingstock for others." His simple words and heartfelt expressions reveal his sense of responsibility towards his work. Whether it is machining or repairing parts, regardless of whether it is the work of his team or department, as long as welding is needed, as long as he receives a "Welding Notification" from the workshop, he always seizes every moment and takes immediate action. These components are often in urgent need of processing and installation; he understands that time is money and efficiency is life. He believes that as a welder in the workshop, no matter how urgent the task or how much work there is, it is all part of his responsibility, and he must not shy away from hard work.   Nie Wenhai is low-key, does not like to show off, and works diligently without conditions. He arrives early every day, and his first task is to clean the maintenance team's area. He even occasionally turns on the communal water heater to descale and clean it, so that his colleagues can have clean hot water during work hours. Once, a colleague wrote a small article about him, published in an industry newspaper, highlighting his advanced achievements in the welding position. Upon seeing the newspaper, he humbly said, "Actually, there is nothing much to write about; what I do is just my job, and it is what I should do, nothing worth mentioning."   In addition to daily welding and repairs, there are some urgent repair tasks that only he can complete by working overtime. On a day in October 2009, a pipe on the soft water pump burst, causing soft water to spray out towards the paper-making workshop. This situation could lead to a production halt at any moment, so immediate welding was necessary. At that time, Nie Wenhai was on vacation, but upon receiving a call from the workshop, he promptly rushed to the scene, taking on the task without hesitation. He worked from 3 PM until around 8:30 PM before returning home for dinner. His family jokingly asked, "Did you sell yourself to the cigarette factory?" He confidently replied, "There’s work waiting there; what can I do? We can’t just stop production, can we?!" "Old Nie" answered his family with conviction.   After the new production line was put into operation in October 2009, it was common for equipment to run poorly and require necessary modifications: valve sizes were incorrect, requiring pipe cutting and welding; steam was leaking into the flavoring room, necessitating emergency measures to install valves; and the dust removal station's pressure bar machine needed a protective platform installed... and so on. "Old Nie" became extremely busy. Sometimes, while squatting on high equipment, the welding position was uncomfortable, and welding sparks fell on him, causing some pain, but he dared not move. Even in October's weather, fully equipped and working for long hours, when he removed the protective cover, Nie Wenhai was covered in sweat, yet he felt very gratified.   Currently, the power workshop where "Nie Wenhai" works is conducting a technical competition. As a veteran welder in the workshop, his goal is to pass on his "skills" to the younger colleagues around him, so they can also possess the same craftsmanship as he does. "Old Nie" believes he is not good with words and finds theoretical training somewhat difficult, so he teaches techniques while working, transforming "telling them" into "showing them." He imparts electrical welding safety knowledge, precautions, and operational essentials while demonstrating them to the young people around him. Nie Wenhai's dedication and responsibility towards his work have earned him the title of "Advanced Individual at the Factory Level" for many years, and the air conditioning team he leads has also been recognized as an "Advanced Team at the Factory Level" for many years.   Nie Wenhai is an ordinary welder who has, over the years, interpreted his loyalty to the Party and the tobacco industry through his actions, singing a colorful song of labor for tobacco workers. Just as the lyrics of the song "The Motherland Will Not Forget" say, among the army conquering the universe, it is I who silently dedicates; in the long river of glorious undertakings, it is I who will always surge forward.
