What Causes E-Cigarette Leaking, and How Do You Fix It?

What causes e-cigarette leaking, and how can you fix it? Leakage is often related to the wick cotton structure, but improper use can also cause e-liquid to seep from the atomizer.
What causes e-cigarette leaking, and how do you fix it? E-cigarette leaking is often caused by the use of cotton as the most common wicking material in atomizers. Due to the fluffy gaps in the cotton, atomizers may experience some leaking during use. However, leaking is not solely due to loose cotton or other quality issues; user errors during the use of e-cigarettes can also lead to leaking. Below, I will categorize the possible causes of leaking in various types of e-cigarettes.

Pod systems can be said to be the most popular type of e-cigarette on the market today. The pods are essentially independent atomizer components. Generally, the liquid leaking from the bottom of the pod is actually condensation occurring at the air intake, which can easily mislead new users into thinking the pod is leaking.

To make it easier for users to refill, most commercially available atomizers now use a top-fill design. If the bottom air intake is not closed when refilling this type of atomizer, leaking may occur during use. If you are not in a hurry to use it, it is actually not recommended to perform a wicking operation, as it can be difficult to control the amount of e-liquid used, leading to leaking.

DIY rebuildable atomizers require skill and experience regarding the amount of cotton used. If too little cotton is used or if the cotton is too fluffy, leaking may occur. Similar to commercially available atomizers, if a top-fill DIY rebuildable atomizer forgets to close the air intake during refilling, there is a high chance of leaking during use.
What causes e-cigarette leaking, and how do you fix it? For simple drip atomizers, quality issues are rare. If leaking occurs, it is usually due to overfilling the e-liquid or laying the atomizer on its side. Additionally, if the O-ring of the drip atomizer becomes worn or damaged during use, there may be some e-liquid seepage from the base.

User errors during the use of e-cigarettes are also one of the biggest causes of leaking, such as blowing into the atomizer too hard, which can force e-liquid out of the atomizer. Laying a rebuildable atomizer on its side for too long can also lead to leaking issues. When e-cigarettes leak, it is not necessarily a quality issue with the device. It is often easy to determine the cause of the leak, and finding the reason can help resolve the leaking issue.
