Data Shows 18,000 New Vape-Related Companies Were Added in China in 2020

According to data from Tianyancha Professional Edition, there are currently 35,000 companies in China with names or business scopes that include "electronic cigarettes, electronic atomizers," and the status of these companies is active, existing, relocated, or exited. In terms of company types, 52% of the related companies are limited liability companies, while 46% are individual businesses. Regarding registered capital, nearly 80% of electronic cigarette-related companies have a registered capital of less than 2 million.

In terms of industry distribution, nearly 90% of electronic cigarette-related companies are in wholesale and retail. Geographically, Guangdong has the highest number of electronic cigarette-related companies, with over 9,700, followed by Jiangsu with over 4,000. Zhejiang and Shandong each have over 2,000 electronic cigarette-related companies.

Data from Tianyancha Professional Edition shows that in 2020, the annual registration volume of electronic cigarette-related companies in China surged, with 18,000 new related companies added throughout the year (all company statuses), representing a year-on-year growth of 270%. By quarter, the fourth quarter saw the highest increase, with 10,000 new electronic cigarette-related companies.

The "2020 China Electronic Cigarette Industry Value Insight Report" released by the Beijing News Think Tank pointed out that the emergence of electronic cigarette products has promoted the rapid growth of related companies in the industry chain, while also expanding the tobacco industry chain, contributing to the creation of a healthy industry ecosystem for the tobacco sector; and together providing harm-reduction and safe electronic cigarette products for society. Electronic cigarette companies engage in research and development, design, production, and sales processes, reducing carbon dioxide and other gas emissions and energy consumption, which has positive significance for China's goal of carbon neutrality and achieving ecological sustainability.
