Last Friday, I finally received the S1 internal testing sample sent by Myst Labs. The internal test version is an engineering model without formal packaging. In addition to the device, there are also disposable silicone tips and six different flavored pods, which are watermelon, latte, red bean, oolong, Arctic ice, and the much-anticipated tobacco flavor No. 3.

Additionally, there was a card with my name on it, which was very touching. Thank you to the Myst Labs team for their trust and attention to detail.

Brand Information

Myst Labs is a new tobacco brand founded by Dr. Xing Chenyue, the inventor of nicotine salts, dedicated to providing low-risk alternatives to combustible cigarettes for the one billion smokers worldwide and those around them. Its R&D headquarters is located in Silicon Valley, USA, and it has established a vape juice R&D laboratory, Myst Labs, adhering to the QbD pharmaceutical development concept advocated by the FDA, strictly following the GMP production quality management system, and has received professional certification from multiple authoritative organizations globally.

In addition to scientists, Myst Labs also has several heavyweight figures:

Co-founder & CEO—Chen Min, former general manager of TCL's Communications Smart Applications Division and an executive at Hong Kong's first publicly listed robotics company, "Superman Intelligence";

Co-founder & CBO—Yao Xiaochao, a well-known investor in Silicon Valley, whose angel investment project is Lime, a shared scooter company that has completed $310 million in Series D financing, possessing global financing capabilities and resource integration abilities;

COO—Liu Yu, former president of Blackberry in China, with deep supply chain integration resources.

In 2019, Myst Labs launched its first-generation product, the P1, featuring a pull-out hidden mouthpiece design that is quite recognizable and has raised expectations for Myst Labs.

Product Specifications

Here are the product data provided by Myst Labs:

Trial Experience

The S1's device continues the family's unique texture, with the upper part resembling scales, which not only maintains its recognizability but also feels great to the touch. The lower half is made of aviation aluminum, using anodized aluminum technology, and features Myst Labs' cloud-like logo and four small LED indicator lights at the bottom. The indicator lights illuminate when a pod is inserted and also serve as a battery level indicator. When the battery is ≥75%, all four white lights are on; when ≥50%, three white lights are on; when ≥25%, two white lights are on; when ≥10%, only one white light is on; if the battery is <10%, four red lights illuminate, reminding users to charge promptly.

The bottom of the S1 device features a Type-C charging port, which is more convenient compared to the USB port of the P1, showing Myst Labs' iterative updates and attention to product details.

I received the green version, officially called pine branch green. I quite like this color; it is darker than typical greens, leaning towards a rich ink green. The aviation aluminum material combined with the anodized aluminum surface treatment and tactile paint feels light and comfortable in hand, with a hint of a dark metallic sheen, giving a noble and steady impression.

Each pod of the S1 is individually sealed with aluminum foil, with a silicone plug at both ends. The sample sent from Shenzhen to Beijing did not leak oil. The silicone plug on top is also printed with Myst Labs' logo, which not only enhances the premium feel but also reinforces the brand impression each time a user opens a new pod. The pods are made of food-grade plastic (PCTG), with a frosted finish on the upper half. Compared to the P1, the S1's pod has a curved design on the upper half to fit the mouth better, but I think it would be better if it had a tighter closure. The lower half is transparent, allowing users to check the remaining e-liquid, and it thoughtfully labels the flavor. The pods are interchangeable and use a magnetic connection, which is quite convenient and has almost become a standard configuration for domestic e-cigarettes. However, I personally feel the magnetic suction is a bit weak; while it won't be an issue during normal use, in extreme situations, such as forcefully shaking the device, the pod may easily slip off. Additionally, there is a slight gap between the pod and the device after connection, causing a slight wobble when the pod is manipulated. I also provided this feedback to my friends at Myst Labs and learned that the engineering model indeed has some magnetic suction issues, and the precision is not as refined as the mass-produced units, which have already been optimized. Upon closer inspection, I found that the device itself does not have an air intake hole, while the pod has two small openings at the upper and lower connection points on both sides, which serve as air holes.

This internal test features a total of six flavors: banana watermelon ice, hazelnut red bean ice, caramel ice latte, lemon oolong tea, Arctic ice, and tobacco flavor No. 3. Flavor preferences vary from person to person; I personally prefer the refreshing taste of lemon oolong tea, while Arctic ice is what we commonly refer to as mint, which is cool enough and quite satisfying. I want to emphasize tobacco flavor No. 3. This is a new tobacco flavor launched by Myst Labs, and it is currently the most expensive among all flavors. The taste of No. 3 is quite unique, leaning towards an American tobacco flavor but slightly lighter, seemingly adjusted to suit the domestic market. Additionally, it lacks the sweetness and chill commonly found in other tobacco flavors, making it closer to the true taste of tobacco. Inhaling it is very smooth, with minimal stimulation, reducing the rejection and unfamiliarity for first-time e-cigarette users. I believe that veteran smokers will find this tobacco flavor more acceptable.

Last Wednesday, Myst Labs mentioned at the launch event that they adopted a new technology called Nicotine X, which can achieve a throat hit and satisfaction equivalent to traditional 3% nicotine salt with a nicotine content of 1.7%. Personally, I feel that the craving relief can reach the effect of about 2.5% nicotine salt. In previous articles, I also mentioned that since last year, both the US and the EU have imposed strict restrictions on e-cigarette products, one being the nicotine content and the other being the flavors of e-cigarettes. The EU has set the upper limit for nicotine at 2%, and many standards in China often reference EU and US standards, so the EU's 2% nicotine content standard is very valuable for the delayed e-cigarette industry standards in China. However, the current nicotine content in China usually ranges from 3% to 5%. The biggest problem with nicotine content below 2% is that the craving relief will be significantly less, which means e-cigarettes will lose a large number of replacement smokers. If the nicotine content of Myst Labs' S1 pods is indeed only 1.7%, achieving the current effect is already quite impressive.

Myst Labs also mentioned at the launch event that the S1 is equipped with a MEMS differential pressure sensor that can dynamically adjust the power based on the inhalation strength, thereby changing the size of the vapor. According to the parameters provided by Myst Labs, the power is divided into three levels: 8W, 9W, and 11W. After actual use, I did not find this function to be very noticeable. However, another friend who received a test unit confirmed this feature, saying that compared to other e-cigarettes, the Myst Labs S1 feels like the power gradually increases during slow inhalation, preventing blockage and providing a better experience.

Regardless, the design direction of adjusting vapor size based on inhalation strength is quite clever, requiring no switches or manual adjustment buttons, with almost no extra operations, aligning with people's usage psychology and habits, making it the most natural way to adjust. I really appreciate Myst Labs' innovative spirit and look forward to more surprises from them in the future.

Myst Labs has set the price of the S1 device at 169 yuan, and except for tobacco flavor No. 3, a pack of two pods costs less than 50 yuan, which aligns well with the S1's target demographic of young people. I personally think this is a very smart move, especially in the current economic environment and the impact of the pandemic. Such pricing has a significant advantage in the still nascent e-cigarette market in China.

Overall, the Myst Labs S1 has improved many issues left over from the P1, while also having a high level of recognizability and good selling points. Coupled with reasonable positioning and pricing, I believe the Myst Labs S1 is definitely a new product worth paying attention to in the near future.

Finally, as usual, it's time for benefits. If you need to test the new Myst Labs S1 e-cigarette or wholesale some, you can contact the official WeChat: vapeos, or call: 15611665151.
