As the COVID-19 pandemic rapidly spread, Europe and the U.S. faced severe outbreaks. Under the impact of the pandemic, most cities in Europe and the U.S. gradually entered a state of emptiness, with some countries announcing the cessation of all gatherings.

Europe and the U.S. are major markets for domestic e-cigarette exports, and the local government's control measures regarding e-cigarette channels during the pandemic have had a significant impact on domestic e-cigarette exports. What is the current situation of e-cigarette channels in Europe and the U.S.? Based on available information, we have compiled the status of e-cigarette channels in several major countries in Europe and the U.S. for reference.

United States

It is understood that the online e-cigarette sales website—Rzsmoke is still available for purchase, while offline main sales channels such as convenience stores and gas stations are still operational.

United Kingdom

As of March 24, the UK’s largest e-cigarette retailer VPZ closed all 155 of its nationwide stores under warnings from the government and the World Health Organization.

However, later reports from the Press Association (UK) indicated that UK regulators were concerned that COVID-19 could pose health risks to smokers continuing to purchase traditional tobacco products, thus allowing vapor e-cigarette chains to continue operating to meet consumer demand for such new products.

France

In the face of the grim COVID-19 situation, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced a three-level COVID-19 alert on March 14, requiring all non-essential stores to close, leaving only restaurants, pharmacies, and tobacco shops open; e-cigarette shops were not included in the list of authorized businesses to continue operating. However, they may still fulfill orders through delivery or pickup.

However, under a decree amendment, as long as e-cigarette shops take all necessary precautions to avoid the spread of the coronavirus, they are considered to be in the "public interest" and are allowed to reopen.

Italy

To curb the spread of the pandemic, the Italian government implemented strict measures, such as banning all public gatherings, closing schools, and requiring most businesses, including bars and restaurants, to cease operations. Initially, e-cigarette shops were also included in the closure list, but this ban has now been lifted.

World-renowned scientist Dr. Riccardo Polosa, known for reducing harm from e-cigarettes and tobacco, successfully persuaded the Italian government to exempt e-cigarette shops from closure due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

On March 13, the Ministry of Health and the Italian Prime Minister issued a statement allowing e-cigarette shops to operate, except for tobacco shops.

Spain

Similar to Italy, e-cigarette shops were classified as essential places and could continue to operate during the pandemic.

Canada

On March 23, Ontario Premier Doug Ford released a list of essential services, which included various industries that would continue to operate during the COVID-19 outbreak. Although the list included businesses based on alcohol and cannabis, adult-only e-cigarette shops and e-cigarette product manufacturers and distributors were not explicitly listed.

However, the Canadian Vaping Association (CVA) urged the government to allow e-cigarette shops to operate during the pandemic and encouraged online ordering and payment to eliminate cash handling and reduce physical interaction.

Malta

(A small country in Southern Europe): Purchases are allowed through delivery.

The pandemic in Europe and the U.S. is still ongoing, and the measures taken by governments are dynamically adjusted. The above statistics on channel conditions are for reference only due to their time-sensitive nature.

Due to limited understanding, if there are any inaccuracies, please feel free to leave comments below for corrections! For the market conditions of other unlisted European and American countries, we hope that e-cigarette practitioners with knowledge will supplement in the comments below. Thank you in advance!

Finally, it is worth mentioning that the virus is the enemy of all humanity, and only with the victory of the world can China’s victory be complete, and the export of e-cigarettes can return to normal. Let us wish all countries around the world to overcome the pandemic soon and hope for a return to prosperity!
