Contrary to multiple peer-reviewed studies, the World Health Organization (WHO) maintained its stance during the 2021 World No Tobacco Day campaign - a commitment to quitting smoking, insisting on incorrect claims about unsafe nicotine replacement products.

The WHO once again stood firm. It asserted that the tobacco industry is promoting e-cigarettes as smoking cessation aids under the guise of promoting global tobacco control, while developing "strategic marketing strategies to attract minors to the same product portfolio, making it appealing with over 15,000 products featuring fruity flavors."

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO's Director-General, stated: "We must be guided by science and evidence, not the marketing activities of the tobacco industry. The tobacco industry has engaged in decades of lies and deception to sell products that cause millions of deaths." He again hinted that the vaping industry is part of the tobacco industry. "E-cigarettes produce toxic chemicals that are associated with harmful health effects, such as cardiovascular diseases and lung diseases."
