Egypt Today reported that Eastern Company is studying ways to use e-cigarettes as a substitute for traditional cigarettes.
In a statement to the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), Eastern Co. said it is in talks with e-cigarette manufacturers in preparation for launching such products after obtaining the necessary licenses.
This move is in line with the company’s strategy to expand and diversify its product portfolio.
In early March, Eastern Company announced that it was studying several new investment projects that would strengthen its position in smoking and tobacco alternatives.
Eastern Company operates in the food, beverage, and tobacco sectors. Founded in July 1920, it currently holds a monopoly position in Egypt’s domestic tobacco market.
Egypt has invited other tobacco companies to bid for a license to manufacture cigarettes in the country, a move that could weaken Eastern Company’s dominance in the local market.
