The online smoking cessation clinic has launched during VApril, the world's largest vaping education campaign aimed at encouraging smokers to switch to more mature and safer alternatives. VApril is now in its third year, held every April by the UK Vaping Industry Association (UKVIA) with strong support from Public Health England (PHE) and health entities in the vaping industry.

Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, this year's campaign has gone digital to reach smokers who are in lockdown. Similarly, the new smoking cessation service at the Grove Hill Pharmacy NHS Stop Smoking Clinic is offering virtual consultations with certified smoking cessation practitioners from the National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training.

Smokers seeking support to quit can book a phone or video consultation, depending on their preference, and can choose one or both methods. After the consultation, they will receive a personalized treatment plan, including a target quit date and options for smoking products, other nicotine replacement therapies (NRT), and medications to reduce cravings.

Additionally, smoking cessation specialists will provide information and understanding about smoking addiction to participants in the program, along with weekly and bi-weekly phone and email support.

“Face-to-face support significantly increases the chances of successfully quitting smoking. With the launch of our online smoking cessation clinic, we can now expand our capacity and reach to provide professional smoking cessation treatment for people at home,” said James Cameron from the Grove Hill Pharmacy NHS Stop Smoking Clinic.

“The current coronavirus lockdown has hindered smokers seeking advice to quit, so this service will provide crucial support during these challenging times.”

Now is the perfect opportunity to focus on quitting smoking.

NHS smoking cessation advisor James Cameron stated that given the current lockdown, there is no better time than now to focus on quitting smoking. “There is no better time than the current coronavirus lockdown for smokers to channel their mental energy into what they most want to do, which is to quit smoking. Our clinic provides the opportunity to do so.”

Andrej Kuttruf, founder of Evapo and director of the UK Vaping Industry Association, expressed that as a business, they are pleased to be part of the smoking cessation program that uses vaping as part of the treatment. “It’s great to be involved in public health initiatives where vaping is a core part of the treatment plan to support smokers who want to quit.”

“According to the UK public health authorities, vaping is recognized as one of the most effective methods for quitting smoking, reducing smoking by 95% compared to traditional cigarettes. According to Action on Smoking and Health, it has helped over 3 million smokers in the UK successfully quit. Expert guidance is crucial in the transition from smoking to vaping. That’s why we are excited to be part of this initiative during VApril, National Smoking Awareness Month.”
