Utah House Passes Bill to Address Vaping in Schools
Utah’s House passed a bill to create clearer policies for handling vaping in schools after reports showed about 30% of students in the state had tried vaping devices.
The Utah House has just passed a bill that will establish clear policies to address vaping in schools.
House Bill 58 is sponsored by Representative Susan Pulsipher. According to statistics, 30% of Utah students have reportedly tried vaping, which has raised significant concerns. She stated, “The devices are small, easy to hide, and difficult to detect.” “Bathrooms are turning into vapor rooms, and detectors are being installed to prevent usage.”
HB 58 requires school administrators to prohibit, confiscate, and destroy any devices found on students.
The bill consists of three parts. The first establishes a clear policy regarding vaping in schools, requiring school administrators to ban vaping and confiscate and destroy all products found. The second part will add vaping education to school health curricula, and the final part will provide funding to support schools in addressing potential issues related to vaping.
