Trump Temporarily Withdraws US Ban on Flavored Vaping Products!
Major U.S. media reported that President Trump temporarily pulled back from a planned ban on flavored vaping products, partly over concerns about backlash from vape shop owners and customers.
On November 19, according to reports from well-known media outlets including The New York Times and The Washington Post, U.S. President Trump has withdrawn the flavored vaping products ban he said earlier this month he would introduce, because he was concerned that angry vape shop owners and customers could affect his campaign.

In recent months, more than 2,000 people were suspected of developing lung disease linked to vaping use, and more than 40 people died. This directly triggered the later wave of large-scale vaping bans. On September 12, the FDA issued an announcement stating that, in light of the growing number of similar cases, Trump planned to order a ban on the sale of flavored vaping products that are especially popular among young people.
However, just two days later, Trump’s firm anti-vaping stance began to soften, and he did not bring up the matter again over the following two months. But the vaping industry underwent major changes. Due to uncertainty in the regulatory market, global retail giant Walmart, U.S. supermarket chain Kroger, and pharmacy chain Walgreens successively announced they would stop selling vaping products. The vaping industry faced serious risks.
It was not until early November that Trump commented again, but by then his position had become much more moderate. He said the key issue was how to prevent minors from buying and using vaping products and how to protect their health, and that his strategy was to ban candy- and fruit-flavored vaping products.
Now, for the sake of his re-election campaign, he has again announced that he is dropping the ban on flavored vaping products. The vaping industry, having narrowly escaped disaster, can finally breathe a slight sigh of relief. But whether Trump might suddenly change course again—who knows?
