Wel Whale Launches 2% Low-Nicotine Pods
Wel Whale launched 2% low-nicotine pods as industry standards and technical compliance become increasingly important in the vaping sector.
According to a previous report by Reuters, the national standards for electronic cigarettes consist of seven chapters, namely, "scope, normative references, terms and definitions, technical requirements, testing methods, packaging, labeling, instructions, storage and transportation," among which the chapters on "technical requirements" and "packaging, labeling, and instructions" are mandatory. This indirectly proves the importance of technology and standard specifications in the electronic cigarette industry.

Regarding the standards for e-liquid, nicotine content is the most concerning aspect. Recently, Wel Whale launched three new flavors: Old Popsicle, Pineapple Ice Beer, and Jasmine Tea, all with a nicotine content of 2%. This aligns with the EU standard that stipulates nicotine concentration should not exceed 20mg/ml, making it one of the few brands in the domestic market offering low-nicotine e-liquids.<\/span><\/div>

A significant technical barrier in developing low-nicotine e-liquids is how to maintain the satisfaction of real tobacco while reducing nicotine content. Currently, most electronic cigarettes on the market have a nicotine content of 5%, with some at 3.5%. The EU's regulations on nicotine concentration are also a major reason why brands like Juul face challenges in Europe.<\/span><\/div>
Reducing nicotine content in e-liquids can diminish the satisfaction of smoking, while also needing to meet user demands for throat hit and other flavor aspects. The emergence of nicotine salts has qualitatively improved the taste of electronic cigarettes. However, if the concentration of nicotine salts is reduced to 20mg/ml, the flavor of the e-cigarette will weaken significantly, requiring R&D departments to provide solutions in e-liquid formulation and hardware upgrades.<\/span><\/div>
Of course, if low-nicotine e-liquids can also provide a good taste for users, it would satisfy smokers while reducing nicotine intake. Wel Whale's CEO, Qiu Yiwu, revealed that the currently available low-nicotine e-liquids can provide a good taste, and the Whale Lab is also developing e-liquids with even lower nicotine content of 10mg/ml, which are expected to deliver a satisfactory flavor for smokers.<\/span><\/div>
Wel Whale's launch of low-nicotine products in conjunction with the upcoming national standards for electronic cigarettes can be seen as a move to mitigate policy risks. Recently, Wel Whale also announced the Whale Blue Book underage protection plan, implementing channel supervision policies and actively developing an identity verification system to strengthen protection for minors both online and offline.<\/span><\/div>
In terms of products, Wel Whale has also strengthened quality control. Notably, Wel Whale's replacement product, Wel Pro, features a pioneering white mouthpiece (Little White Mouth) e-liquid cartridge, made from PCTG ceramic white plastic, meeting the FDA standards for food contact and suitable for use in baby bottle manufacturing. The whiter the material, the fewer impurities it contains, increasing the difficulty of processing, but this results in a higher yield while also doubling material costs.<\/span><\/div>

Recently, RELX and MOTI launched smart vape pens focusing on monitoring functions, with the former even connecting to its own social app; SnowPlus introduced a fluorescent e-cigarette targeting trendy individuals entering bars and nightclubs. These operations align well with the pace of internet development by adding value and surrounding products to attract users.<\/span><\/div>
In contrast, Wel Whale appears more conservative, focusing more on the product itself, including product design, core component design, e-liquid development, and flavor control.<\/span><\/div>
