Counterfeit IQOS devices exist like any other product in China. This guide shares simple external checks to help users identify genuine and fake IQOS units without opening the device.
In China, any product can have counterfeits, and it’s really frustrating if you pay the price of a genuine item but end up with a fake. Today, a customer asked us to repair a device. After opening it up, we immediately noticed something was wrong. The motherboard color and components were different, and a careful look at the charging case made it obvious that it was fake. To help everyone avoid being scammed, today we’ll show you how to identify genuine and fake IQOS devices. Since most people won’t take their device apart, we can only teach you some simple ways to tell from the exterior.
Actually, if you don’t take the holder apart, it’s basically impossible to tell whether it’s genuine or fake just from the outside. But the charging case is different. On fake ones, the print on the QR code area may peel off, while the original is clearer and the coating does not come off easily.
From the front, it can be a bit difficult to judge by appearance alone. Since this genuine one had already been disassembled by me, its gaps are a bit wider too. Fake devices usually have slightly larger gaps. More importantly, when the light turns on, it may appear slightly crooked, unlike the genuine product, and there can also be some light leakage. Anyone who has used an authentic one should understand what I mean.
There is also a slight difference in the flower-shaped pattern, but the difference is not very big. It’s hard to tell just from the holder alone, which is why many standalone holders are now sold at relatively low prices!
