According to the Jakarta Post, Philip Morris International's Indonesian subsidiary Sampoerna opened a factory for producing IQOS HEETS materials in Karawang, West Java, on January 12.<\/span><\/div>

The facility began operations in the fourth quarter of 2022, with an investment of over $186 million.

The new HEETS factory will serve customers in Indonesia and the Asia-Pacific region, aligning with government policies that encourage investment and the export of finished products. Economic Affairs Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto stated at the inauguration that this investment will encourage innovation and create value in other areas such as retail, agriculture, and R&D.<\/div>

According to PMI, the Indonesian factory is the seventh innovative smoke-free product factory globally and the first in Southeast Asia.<\/div>

At the inauguration, Sampoerna President Director Vassilis Gkatzelis praised the favorable investment environment provided by the Indonesian government and its commitment to maintaining economic stability.<\/div>

"As a company that has been operating for nearly 110 years, our goal is to continue contributing to the national economy through ongoing investments and the economic impact on the tobacco industry's supply chain and ecosystem," he said.<\/div>

Vassilis also noted PMI's significant investments in heated tobacco. He stated that the company has invested over $9 billion in the development, scientific validation, and commercialization of innovative smoke-free tobacco products.<\/div>

IQOS made its debut in Indonesia in 2019 through limited market testing and is available in cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, and Bandung.<\/div>
