According to Reuters, British American Tobacco (BAT) will close a cigarette manufacturing plant in Switzerland in 2023.

The closure will result in 226 workers losing their jobs. According to SwissInfo, employees will receive "favorable social treatment."
"BAT Switzerland confirms that it has made the final decision to move cigarette production from Boncourt to larger factories in Europe and to close the Boncourt plant," BAT stated in a press release.
Lionel Maitre, the mayor of Boncourt, expressed that the closure brings a feeling of "shock, disappointment, despair, and chaos." The factory's closure will result in Boncourt losing its largest taxpayer.
"Let’s be clear—this is a heavy blow, but we will overcome it, and the situation is not hopeless," said David Erey, president of the Jura government. "This decision forces us to face the painful consequences we feared."
In 2014, BAT closed its R&D facility in Boncourt, laying off about 15 employees.
