Bangkok Public Health Office Raises Concerns Over E-Cigarette Use
Bangkok is strengthening controls over the sale of tobacco and e-cigarettes and raising awareness among the public and schools about the harms of e-cigarettes and tobacco. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has already passed anti-smoking legislation to strengthen oversight of sellers.
According to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration News website, Suthat Sunthrajati, director of the Public Health Office of Bangkok (PSOB), recently expressed concern about improving protective measures regarding e-cigarettes, cannabis, and kratom in educational and medical institutions.
Suthat said the Bangkok Public Health Office also serves as secretary to the Bangkok Tobacco Product Control Committee. The committee is working with networks from the public, private, and social sectors to find solutions to the problem of e-cigarette use among children, teenagers, and the general public in Bangkok.
The office has also specifically promoted awareness of the dangers of e-cigarettes and actively carried out preventive measures. These awareness campaigns mainly target children and teenagers and are conducted with the support of schools and health institutions. At the same time, oversight of merchants selling e-cigarettes has been strengthened to ensure legal compliance and improve the city’s public health standards.
