Former anti-vaping officer in Singapore charged with indecent acts and solicitation of sexual bribes
On December 20, 2023, according to CNA, a former investigator was charged with indecent acts while investigating e-cigarette violations, accused of committing lewd acts against suspects and attempting to solicit sexual favors in exchange for leniency.
54-year-old Zaini Ibrahim faces 13 charges, including corruption, insulting a woman's chastity, and violating a woman's chastity. According to a statement from the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) to the media, Zaini has been an investigator at WSH Experts since November 2021, a contractor for the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) responsible for investigating e-cigarette violations.
According to The Straits Times (ST), Zaini is alleged to have committed crimes against three unnamed women in 2022, with a gag order in place to protect their identities.
On July 6, 2022, Zaini allegedly attempted to obtain sexual gratification from one of the women in the WSH office, offering to handle her violations leniently instead of submitting them to court.
Zaini is also accused of committing lewd acts against the two women while recording their statements in the WSH office between March 29 and July 6, 2022.
He is further alleged to have insulted the chastity of the two women through WhatsApp messages or in person at the WSH office between June 29 and July 6, 2022, including asking one of the women about her bust size.
