Staffordshire County Council annual roundup: seized goods included oversized vaping devices

The Staffordshire County Council's trading standards department has released a list as part of its annual roundup. This list includes some of the most unusual items seized by their officers this year, including banned American candies, dangerous baby strollers, and oversized vaping devices.

The seizure of these illegal, unsafe, or counterfeit goods is an important demonstration of the team's ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity and protect the safety of residents.

All these items pose specific threats to public safety and consumer welfare, such as American candies containing unauthorized additives, counterfeit perfumes, and dangerous knockoff vaping devices. Additionally, thanks to the agency's professional animal health team, over 240 calves and cows were taken into care amid serious farm neglect allegations, along with a dog rescued from a kennel to prevent abuse.

Officials highlighted some of the major seizures this year, including many common items as well as some more unusual ones.

Banned American candies and sodas: These often contain unauthorized ingredients that are banned in the UK.

Dangerous baby strollers: These strollers were removed from the market for failing to meet safety and fire regulations.

Counterfeit perfumes: These may contain harmful chemicals.

Illegal and oversized vaping devices: These products do not meet safety standards and may contain harmful chemicals.

Illegal cigarettes and tobacco: The availability of such products disrupts effective tobacco control and undermines public health messaging.

Counterfeit clothing: These garments are often of poor quality and help support organized crime groups.

Counterfeit Apple iPhones: Digital devices may have batteries that do not meet safety standards, posing a fire risk.

Pet food: Often contains low-quality ingredients that may be harmful to pets.

Over 240 calves and cows: These animals were at risk of abuse and were rescued from several farms. Dogs at a kennel were also rescued from potential abuse.
