Risk of metal foreign matter in some batches prompts US Smokeless Tobacco Company recall
American Snuff Co. has voluntarily recalled certain batches of Kodiak Premium Wintergreen Longcut Tobacco produced at its plant in Clarksville, Tennessee, and sold in 18 states.
According to Tobaccoreporter, American Snuff Co. (ASC) has voluntarily recalled certain batches of Kodiak Premium Wintergreen Longcut Tobacco produced at its plant in Clarksville, Tennessee, and sold in 18 states.
ASC has notified the U.S. Food and Drug Administration of the voluntary recall and is working with the agency to address the matter.
According to a notice on the company’s website, ASC initiated the recall after discovering that certain batches may contain metal foreign matter that consumers may or may not be able to see. The recall was triggered by an issue identified during a routine inspection of production equipment, which found metal-on-metal wear. This wear could have caused metal fragments to come into contact with the tobacco during manufacturing. To date, no affected product containing these foreign materials has been identified, and no consumer complaints or injury reports have been received.
None of ASC’s other products are affected, including other varieties of Kodiak, Grizzly, Hawken, and Cougar smokeless tobacco products, as well as all loose-leaf, twist, dry snuff, and plug products.
ASC has instructed wholesalers and retailers to separate the recalled Kodiak Premium Wintergreen Longcut Tobacco from their inventory.
