Fast FactsOregon environmental regulators have fined an e-cigarette eliquid manufacturer and distributor $32,700 for multiple hazardous waste violations at its plants in Eugene and Springfield, Yahoo News reported.
Vape Game was fined for transporting hazardous waste without a manifest, failing to determine if the waste generated was hazardous, unauthorized storage of hazardous waste for longer than allowed, and failing to have an emergency response plan in place at the facility. Its owner, Dalton Baarstad, said he plans to appeal the fines.
Baarstad said he accumulated nicotine waste during his eight years in business but was cited when he tried to arrange for proper disposal.
"There's no real guidance for emerging industries like the e-cigarette industry to follow these formats," he said. "DEQ is using a series of regulations based on what they have available, but it doesn't really include my industry.
"It's very frustrating," Barstad said.
