Spain seizes more than 10,000 illegal e-cigarettes
The Spanish Civil Guard seized over 11,000 illegal e-cigarette products in Gran Canaria.
According to a report by Canarianweekly on October 14, the Spanish Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) carried out a large-scale operation in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, confiscating more than 11,000 illegal e-cigarettes, including disposable and rechargeable products.
The authorities suspect that these products were smuggled onto the island through illegal channels, posing a serious threat to public health. Following tips about the illegal sale and distribution of e-cigarettes, the police immediately launched the operation. The products in question did not comply with the regulations set by the Spanish Ministry of Health through the General Directorate of Public Health, which pertain to the production, labeling, and distribution of products to ensure their safe consumption.
The financial and border patrol units of the Civil Guard quickly conducted inspections in the capital city of Gran Canaria, seizing illegal goods sold in various retailers, such as tobacco shops, stores, and markets. Most of these goods were illegally imported from outside the EU.
The Civil Guard emphasized that relevant laws in Europe and Spain impose strict controls on e-cigarettes to ensure consumer safety. Therefore, the sale and use of illegal components could pose a significant threat to public health.
