Belgium Health Minister: Plans to Ban Sales of Disposable Vaping Devices Starting in 2025

The Belgian Minister of Public Health announced in a parliamentary session that he will take a firm stance against the use of e-cigarettes, planning to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarette products starting in 2025.
According to recent reports from Moustique, Belgian Public Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke announced in a parliamentary session that he will take a firm stance against the use of e-cigarettes, planning to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarette products starting in 2025.
According to a survey released by the Belgian Cancer Prevention Foundation, 35% of young people aged 15 to 20 have used e-cigarettes, with 32% having used them in the past year.
In response to questions from lawmakers, Vandenbroucke proposed a five-point action plan. He emphasized:
“It is prohibited to sell e-cigarettes to minors.”
Therefore, he hopes to establish a “mystery shopper” system to penalize stores that violate the law.
Additionally, Vandenbroucke stated that he is studying a bill that would require merchants to ask customers for their age if they appear to be under 25.
The minister expressed his efforts to ban the use of disposable e-cigarettes. Vandenbroucke stated that Belgium is already leading in Europe on this issue: it was submitted to the European Commission in 2021, and a few weeks ago, the minister presented additional reasons. He hopes to receive a positive response by early next year and plans to ban the sale of such products starting in 2025. Furthermore, starting early next year, the sale of e-cigarettes with lights and other gadgets will be prohibited.
Moreover, he also hopes to ban the display of e-cigarette products in windows or display cases.
