Monaco Plans Legislation to Ban Disposable Vapes; Rechargeable Products Unaffected

Summary: The Monaco government has decided to ban disposable vapes widely used by teenagers, while rechargeable vaping products will not be affected by the proposed legislation.

The Monaco government has decided to ban the sale of disposable vaping devices widely used by teenagers, but rechargeable products will not be affected by future legislation.

According to a report from French media Nice Mat on October 6, the Monaco government announced at a press conference that it is drafting a bill aimed at prohibiting the sale of disposable vaping devices (commonly referred to as PUFF) that are widely used by teenagers.

Christophe Robino, Monaco's Minister of Health and Social Affairs, stated to the media that the bill is nearly complete and will soon be submitted to the National Council. He explained the rationale behind this policy, noting that the circulation of disposable vaping devices is unpopular.

This is primarily due to two reasons:

First, health concerns; officials are aware that teenagers transitioning from disposable vaping devices to cigarettes face a very high risk, which is related to nicotine content; second, environmental concerns, as these battery-operated devices, when discarded carelessly, can impact the environment. Such concerns have also been recognized by many other countries in France and Europe.

Previously, French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne announced her government's determination to ban disposable vaping devices, which is part of France's anti-smoking plan.

Additionally, Robino added that rechargeable vaping devices will not be affected by Monaco's future legislation.
