Recently, the police in Hainan Province's Tunchang County, with strong support from the provincial narcotics control team, successfully cracked an illegal operation case spanning Guangdong and Hainan, arresting 11 suspects and detaining 6 individuals abusing etomidate. They seized 187 e-cigarette cartridges containing etomidate, cutting off an illegal sales line primarily selling "high-inducing" e-cigarettes.

Case Review

In March 2023, the narcotics control team of Tunchang County discovered that a man from Tunchang was suspected of selling e-cigarettes containing etomidate in Hainan in large quantities. Further analysis revealed that this man had been purchasing supplies from Guangdong and smuggling them into Tunchang and other areas for distribution, spanning both provinces and causing significant social negative impact. The Tunchang County Public Security Bureau attached great importance to this and promptly established a special task force led by the narcotics control team to conduct an investigation.

Through investigation, the task force discovered that since February 2023, a criminal gang led by a man named Zhong had been purchasing e-cigarette cartridges containing etomidate from Guangdong and selling them to clients in Hainan, who then distributed them to local drug users in Haikou, Tunchang, and other areas.

After careful planning, the narcotics control team of Tunchang County arrested the main suspect Zhong and 6 other suspects on April 5 and May 18 in Haikou and other locations, seizing 187 e-cigarette cartridges containing etomidate, 79.74 grams of etomidate, and one motorcycle involved in the case.

Through further investigation, the Tunchang police ultimately identified Zhong's supplier, a man named Xu. Recently, the task force officers traveled to another province to apprehend Xu, successfully capturing him with the full cooperation of local police.

As of now, a total of 11 suspects have been arrested, 6 individuals abusing etomidate have been detained, 187 e-cigarette cartridges containing etomidate have been seized, and 79.74 grams of etomidate have been confiscated, successfully cutting off an illegal sales line from Guangdong to Hainan. The case is still under further investigation.
