Russia’s Draft Ban on Vaping Flavorings Submitted, May Cover All Flavorings
According to an August 8 report by Russia’s TASS news agency, Artem Metelev, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Youth Policy, said that a draft government regulation banning flavoring additives used in vaping products will soon be submitted to the Russian cabinet.
According to the report, the draft regulation plans to prohibit all artificial and natural flavorings and food additives, including additives containing harmful and dangerous compounds, stimulants, sweeteners, colorants, and other substances that may give people the impression that electronic nicotine products are harmless or low-risk.
The Youth Policy Committee believes that all flavorings that create an illusion of harmlessness and manipulate consumer choice should be eliminated. Metelev said that e-cigarette flavors such as chewing gum and candy are merely a gimmick designed to get young people addicted to nicotine.
This move is intended to protect young people from the harms of vaping products. As vaping has become increasingly widespread among Russian teenagers, related regulation in Russia has continued to tighten. GeWu Consumer will continue to monitor whether Russia ultimately introduces a policy completely banning flavorings in vaping products.
