Is e-cigarette regulation different from cigarette regulation? What are the differences?

The regulation of e-cigarettes is very different from that of cigarettes. Both areas are based on safety considerations. However, there are also many similarities: great progress has been made in smoking cessation technology and device development.

1: Regulation of e-cigarettes

The regulation of e-cigarettes mainly involves strict, systematic, and scientific oversight of the raw materials they use. First, the qualifications of e-cigarette manufacturers are reviewed; second, product quality is ensured by establishing a sound quality management system and technical system; third, e-cigarette products are subject to unified standard certification; finally, information such as the expiration date is marked on e-cigarette packaging. Cigarette regulation mainly includes the following aspects: 1. The state introduces relevant policies and regulations to standardize cigarette market behavior; 2. Tobacco authorities at all levels strengthen market supervision and severely crack down on illegal cigarette sales; 3. Local governments strengthen oversight and investigate illegal and non-compliant activities; 4. Improve laws and regulations to protect consumers’ rights and interests.

2: Regulation of cigarettes

Cigarette regulation mainly focuses on supervising cigarette manufacturers and sellers. This means that, in order to ensure that cigarette quality meets national standards and that these products are used safely, the government needs to take appropriate measures to oversee cigarette factories and retailers in fulfilling their responsibilities. To achieve the above goals, first, cigarette manufacturers must comply with relevant regulations, including EU directives and the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control; second, a sound market system must also be established so that consumers can buy tobacco products that meet quality standards at reasonable prices; finally, inspection and monitoring of the production process of e-cigarette companies should be strengthened to promptly detect and correct non-standard behavior. In short, cigarette regulation aims to ensure the safety and high quality of cigarette production, and only in this way can people’s health be protected.
