European Elections May Affect E-cigarettes: Most Likely to Formally Support Harm Reduction Products
Today’s news, June 2, reports that according to Tamarind Intelligence Policy Radar research, elections in several European countries may affect support for vaping and other low-risk nicotine products.
European governments are most likely to formally support reduced-risk products.
According to Tamarind Intelligence, the upcoming elections in Finland, Spain, Ireland, and the Czech Republic, as well as the European Parliament elections, may be significant in determining the future of these products.
“Our analysis of official attitudes towards e-cigarettes and other tobacco harm reduction products shows some clear global trends,” said Barnaby Page, editor director of Tamarind Intelligence. “For example, European countries tend to have a more favorable attitude, while Asian countries are often more polarized.”
“However, legal changes in this area are very rapid—sometimes due to changes in government, and sometimes because issues like underage vaping or the environmental impact of disposable e-cigarettes become focal points of public concern.”
Researchers expect that global regulation of low-risk products will become stricter, especially in middle-income and high-income countries. Flavored products are expected to receive the most attention, as countries propose bans on their use.
