According to foreign media reports today, the Alabama legislature this week passed a bill banning smoking or vaping in cars carrying children aged 14 and under.
House Bill 3 was introduced by Birmingham Representative Rolanda Hollis. She said she has been working on this effort for six years.
The bill stipulates that smoking or vaping inside a vehicle is illegal whether the windows are open or closed. According to WBRC, violating the rule could result in a $100 fine.
Hollis said: We want to protect these children from severe allergies, respiratory problems, and all the other issues caused by secondhand smoke. It could even save them from developing cancer later in life.
The bill is now awaiting the governor’s signature to become law.
