The Netherlands to ban sales of nicotine pouches
Today, on April 22, it was reported that the Dutch government announced on April 21 that it will ban the sale of nicotine pouches and expand tobacco regulations to cover all other types of non-tobacco nicotine products.
Currently, Dutch law only allows the sale of nicotine pouches containing less than 0.035 grams of nicotine.
The new regulations will also prohibit the use of nicotine pouches and other non-tobacco nicotine products in smoke-free areas.
The government stated that it will also stop all advertising of smokeless nicotine products, as tobacco companies have invested heavily in this area to shift from combustible products to less harmful cigarette alternatives.
"The tobacco industry continues to launch new products, making it easier for young people to access nicotine," said Maarten van Ooijen, Deputy Minister of Health, as reported by Reuters.
"This is bad because nicotine is addictive and harmful. That's why I'm glad we are now treating these products the same as tobacco products." he said.
