Philip Morris International Appoints New Head for South Korea

Today, on April 19, news from foreign media reported that Philip Morris Korea, a subsidiary of the American tobacco giant Philip Morris International, announced on Wednesday that Hannah Yun, the former Managing Director of Philip Morris Australia, has been appointed as the new CEO.

The company stated that Yun is an industry veteran who has worked for Philip Morris and its numerous international branches for 27 years, making her a leader with extensive experience in business strategy and finance.

After majoring in finance at the University of Technology Sydney and obtaining an MBA from the International Institute for Management Development in Switzerland, she joined Philip Morris Korea in 1997, responsible for corporate affairs, business strategy, and budget management.

Over the years, she continued to work for the company in several countries, including Malaysia, Switzerland, the Philippines, and Hong Kong, where she took on many responsibilities, from reviewing operational plans and managing communications to overseeing financial and business strategies.

Most recently, she served as the Managing Director of Philip Morris Australia, leading the business in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands.

Starting May 1, she will take on her new role at the company's Korean subsidiary, leading efforts to accelerate the company's vision for a smoke-free future.

"With its cutting-edge technology and vibrant market environment, Korea is one of the most important countries leading Philip Morris's efforts to achieve a smoke-free future," Yun said in a press release. "We will continue to provide accurate information about the differences between cigarettes and heated tobacco products to support adult smokers in making better choices."

The current Executive Director, Paik Young-jay, will continue to work until the end of April to ensure a smooth leadership transition before moving on to new opportunities. Paik has served as Managing Director during the COVID-19 pandemic and has helped establish a collaborative and stable corporate culture. He also contributed to the successful launch of the brand's IQOS ILUMA series.
