According to reports today, a bill proposed by the Texas House will ban the use of all tobacco and e-cigarette products at colleges and universities in Texas by August 1, 2024.
Charlie Minato from Halfwheel reported that Representative Suleman Lalani introduced HB 3124, which requires each higher education institution to establish a policy prohibiting the use of tobacco products and e-cigarettes by August 1, 2024.
The bill had a public hearing in the Texas House Higher Education Committee on Monday.
The five largest universities in the state have some form of smoke-free campus policy, but some of these universities (Texas A&M University and UT Arlington) are stricter than others, such as the University of Houston.
