Israeli Parliament Finalizes High E-cigarette Tax

The Finance Committee of the Israeli Parliament has approved slight modifications to the tax on e-cigarette hardware and e-liquid imposed last November.

Although reports indicate that the committee has canceled the separate tax on disposable products, Israel will still have the highest e-cigarette taxes in the world. Effective immediately, all e-cigarette products will be taxed at 270% of the wholesale cost, plus 15.6 new shekels (4.94 USD) per milliliter of e-liquid.<\/span><\/div>

Both the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Health aim to tax e-cigarette products at the same rate as cigarettes. The Ministry of Health insists that e-cigarettes are as dangerous as smoking and initially sought higher taxes. According to Israel Hayom, Finance Committee Chairman Alex Kushnir “reduced the conversion formula by 30% compared to what the Ministry of Health wanted.”<\/span><\/div>
