When it comes to the Merlin Mini, Druga RDA, and the VTEC box mod, many vapers can readily share their own opinions and user experience. At a time when pod vaping devices are everywhere, Augvape chose not to follow the trend. Instead, after a period of silence, it quietly released a top-airflow atomizer.
Today, let’s talk about this INTAKE RTA atomizer, a product created by Augvape & Mike Vape that stands out from the crowd.
The classic black cylindrical packaging features prominent Augvape and Mike Vape branding. In addition to the usual product information, it also includes a QR code and an anti-counterfeit coating.
The INTAKE RTA is highly recognizable at a glance!
The full kit does not include a user manual. That’s not much of an issue for experienced users, but it may be less beginner-friendly for newcomers. As for the cotton and coils that come as “standard” with many atomizers from other brands, that really comes down to personal preference, since some of those “standard” accessories are not actually very good.
The INTAKE RTA has a 2.5 ml straight glass section and a 4.2 ml bubble glass section. The accessory bag also includes a black 810 drip tip with an inward-tapered bore and a 510 drip tip adapter, allowing users to choose whichever setup they prefer.
The bottom of the atomizer is marked with Augvape and Mike Vape branding along with a serial number, and the positive pin protrudes fairly well. The branded area is recessed, and the outer edge is chamfered, so the actual contact area between the atomizer base and the device is only a 1 mm-wide ring. This greatly reduces the chance of the atomizer seizing onto the device and becoming difficult to unscrew.
The mouthpiece height has clearly been reduced, though the top cap may still feel a bit thick. After machining the top cap, the design not only looks slimmer but also provides more grip when twisting it open, helping prevent slipping.
The top cap and main body are secured by two fixed slots and sealed with a silicone ring. This design is much more convenient than a threaded cap.
The airflow control ring can be removed separately, making cleaning easier.
The INTAKE RTA is more than just a simple top-airflow design—there’s a lot going on inside. Keep reading…
Although the chamber and airflow section are not removable, you can still see how thoughtfully the internal structure was designed. Inside the chamber, a divider splits the space into two sections. The round opening in the center of the divider fits onto the vapor outlet and can rotate freely; there is also a round opening on each side, connecting upward to the intake openings and downward to the two airflow guide channels on the build deck…
…The air enters through the airflow guide channels into the base, is then directed to the three square openings in the middle of the deck, blows onto the coil, and is finally drawn out through the central chimney. This completes the entire process of converting top airflow into bottom airflow. The most direct and obvious benefit is that it does not leak. While this structure may look complicated, it is actually not difficult to use at all. Also, once the coil is positioned properly, it sits quite close to the three openings, so the flavor does not become loose or muted.
The two posts use slotted screw terminals, so they can easily handle either clockwise or counterclockwise coil wraps. The only minor issue is that when tightening the screws, the coil legs may shift and deform slightly as the screws turn, but this can be corrected easily during dry burning and adjustment.
The wicking ports are not especially large, so the cotton tails only need light combing. In testing, it was able to vape nearly the last drop of e-liquid from the tank.
When using the INTAKE RTA with the airflow set to about halfway or slightly less, the flavor reproduction of the e-liquid is quite good and fairly rich. With the airflow fully open, vapor production increases significantly, while the richness of the flavor does not drop very noticeably.
The divider inside the chamber means the chamber loses some of the concentrating effect of a domed top, but it also creates a narrower and longer chimney. Combined with its distinctive bottom-directed airflow, the INTAKE RTA is still very satisfying in terms of detail, flavor reproduction, and vapor richness.
Even during chain vaping, the atomizer did not become uncomfortably hot overall, which may be related to the two airflow guide channels inside the chamber absorbing some of the heat. Although the wicking ports are not very large, there were no issues with poor wicking, so there’s no need to thin the cotton tails too much. #p#Page Break Title#e#
Aside from looking slightly top-heavy, the INTAKE RTA doesn’t seem to have any obvious shortcomings. It really is a very good atomizer!
