HQD-COMMA Small Vape Review

The years 2017 to 2018 were the years of the pod system, and there is no doubt about it. Although other e-cigarette products have not stopped launching new items, the development and speed of the pod system are absolutely the fastest, and it is not an exaggeration to say it has exploded. Today, I will share a pod system from the domestic brand ZUMA Vapor. After the baptism of the pod system in 2017, more manufacturers returned to the original intention of e-cigarettes, which is to simulate the real smoking experience, that is, instant satisfaction, tight draw, small vapor, throat hit, portability, and a variety of flavors.
With the improvement of nicotine salt e-liquid technology, pod systems are increasingly recognized in the market. After the introduction of disposable pod systems, many users expressed the demand for refillable options, thus high-nicotine salt e-liquids became the stage for refillable pod systems to perform. Below is the product I want to share today, the HQD COMMA pod system released by ZUMA Vapor.
The cover, manual, warning card, and other text areas are all in English...
This is a pod system called HQD--Comma, and the name is quite fitting.
In terms of appearance, pod systems can also be subdivided into several types. Among them, the traditional pen-style is the most common, followed by this short and plump, rounded type. The advantage is that it is casual, not as constrained as the pen-style, easy to carry, and allows for more design flexibility. It can be a luxury car key, a badge, or something cute. Previous models like the Waterdrop and S8 followed this trend.
It can be said that HQD is a bit late to the game after the Waterdrop and S8, and to appeal to users, it needs to have some new features, so let’s take a look further.
The outer packaging is shown in the pictures, and it is all in English anyway.
The HQD surface uses a frosted material that is non-reflective, does not attract fingerprints, and is less prone to scratches, which is appreciated by someone like me who is not very careful with my belongings.
The HQD body is made of alloy material, giving it a certain weight, while the pod is made of dark transparent plastic.
The mold development is quite refined, with excellent workmanship, including the connection points of the atomizer that are usually not visible, which are also well done. The internal structure has not been disassembled, so I can only guess.
Like the S8, the HQD does not have visible screws on the outside, and it requires a prying tool to open. In contrast, the Waterdrop is sealed with three screws, which is more friendly to those who like to disassemble devices.
Similar to the S8, but different from the Waterdrop, the HQD pod uses a magnetic connection, with one air hole left between the positive and negative poles. The ignition is activated by a pneumatic switch, eliminating the need for an additional ignition action.
The pod uses the traditional heating wire and cotton core method, with a single filling hole (the Waterdrop has two holes). The HQD pod has the largest volume and a narrow airflow.
The oil compartments on both sides connect smoothly.
The pod is made of black semi-transparent PC material, with a heating resistance of 1.4 ohms, suitable for a power range of 7W-12W. The oil capacity is 2ML, which is enough for a day's use.
It does not adopt a conventional symmetrical design but is slightly wider on the left and narrower on the right. The unique lip arc design fits the shape of the lips very well.
The interior of the pod is divided into three compartments by two baffles, with the middle being the oil storage compartment and the sides being reserved for magnetic installation.
If the design were further enhanced, it could achieve a storage capacity of 2.5ML. However, the filling holes of such pod systems are generally small, so it is recommended to use a needle-style bottle for refilling.

The oil compartment volume is 2ML, with a rated resistance of 1.4 ohms, and a recommended power of 7-12W. This is basically for mouth-to-lung usage, estimating that this oil capacity is sufficient for a day of moderate use.
This is still due to the magnetic poles occupying space on both sides; if the design were more reasonable, the oil capacity could be higher.
The battery capacity is 380mAh, which is above average for this type of pod system, and it takes just over half an hour to charge.
A highlight of the HQD is the small round screen at the bottom, which is rare in pod systems. Moreover, when the pneumatic switch is triggered, it can display the duration of the draw, while normally it shows the remaining battery and puff count. Compared to other pod systems that use weak LED colors to indicate battery levels, this is definitely appealing to users who are sensitive to numbers.
Next comes the experience, but...
Unfortunately... there is no e-liquid included, which is disappointing!
Even 10ML would be fine. If users excitedly open the package ready to indulge, only to find they need to buy e-liquid first, it feels like getting undressed... well, I won't say anything inappropriate.
Moreover, the manufacturer’s paired e-liquid also has a guiding role, providing some guidance on what flavors and concentrations of e-liquid to pair with the product, so users don’t have to try them one by one.
Fortunately, I have a few e-liquids on hand to save the day, such as this tobacco-flavored one with a nicotine salt concentration of 50mg. After filling it up and taking a puff, indeed... cough cough cough, I was choked. The 50mg concentration is indeed more suitable for seasoned smokers.
The vapor production is moderate, with a tight draw, and the flavor is good, reflecting the main flavor of the e-liquid.
In summary, this HQD pod system, whether in structure, ignition method, refilling, or airflow, seems to lack any innovative elements. In terms of size, the Comma is comparable to the S8, with little difference.
The S8 is relatively thinner, while the Comma is thicker. The biggest difference is that the Comma has a small screen that can display battery level, puff count, and draw duration, which is very intuitive. Using the same e-liquid on both products, the experience is very similar. The flavor reproduction and vapor production are quite comparable.
In terms of battery life, both devices are also very close, able to finish about one pod of e-liquid without issues, with both pods having a capacity of 2ml.
The S8 is thinner and has a more fashionable appearance. The Comma, on the other hand, is cuter, with a design that fits nicely in the mouth when held at the side of the face, which feels good.
The pneumatic switch of the S8 is more sensitive than that of the Comma, making it easier to draw. The Comma can also use a little cotton at the joint to make the airflow tighter, and the ignition switch becomes equally sensitive.
The S8’s pods are thinner, and after refilling, there may occasionally be an issue with uneven e-liquid levels on both sides due to the tension of the e-liquid, requiring it to be laid on its side for a while to flow down. The Comma’s pods are thicker, with a narrow airflow, so there won’t be a situation where the e-liquid levels are uneven.
After a few days of use, the Comma has provided a very good experience, just like the S8 that I previously liked very much. Now, with the rise of high-nicotine salt e-liquids, there are many options available, and refillable pod systems are also gaining attention. Friends who enjoy pod systems can give this Comma a try, especially if the pod prices are affordable.
