Petrie DotTank 24MM Gen 2 Sub-Ohm Tank Review
With thousands of new users joining the vaping market every day, most beginners start with sub-ohm tanks...
Thousands of new users enter the vaping market every day, and most beginners choose prebuilt tanks as their first option. Among the many finished tanks available, Petrie’s tank has built an impressive reputation for both looks and flavor. Its large user base speaks highly of it, which is closely tied to the brand’s serious attitude toward product quality. The 22mm Petrie tank, a strong seller since launch, has finally received an upgraded version. In addition to the diameter increasing to 24mm, the coil has been significantly upgraded to a mesh heating structure, along with several detail refinements. Let’s take a closer look.
As for the packaging, it continues Petrie’s black box style, with a large Petrie logo prominently displayed on the front. After opening the box, you’ll find the 24mm Petrie Gen 2 tank, a spare coil, a spare glass section, an accessory pack, and an Ultem drip tip. The authentication card is placed underneath and can only be removed after taking everything else out. The number on the authentication card matches the number on the tank base and the sticker on the outer packaging.
The tank itself has an exquisite overall shape and uses gold-plated copper material. Unlike the first-generation tank, the 24mm version drops the original knurled top and bottom sections in favor of a diamond-cut knurled texture, which improves both appearance and grip, making disassembly more convenient.
As many users know, Petrie uses a threaded drip tip design. Moving away from the standard 510 and 810 formats certainly takes some courage, since some buyers may not accept it. Testing shows that the first- and second-generation drip tips remain the same in both size and material.
Unscrew the top cap to fill e-liquid. It still does not use a conventional fill port.
A PEEK insert is used at the top cap connection point. This design effectively blocks heat from the tank chamber from transferring to the drip tip and affecting the vaping experience. In addition, the smooth threading resistance helps prevent the chimney connector ring and coil from being unscrewed together with the top cap, avoiding the awkward issue of leakage.
Looking at the coil and the chimney connector ring on the top cap, you can clearly see the domed design. This is a very common approach in tanks, helping concentrate the vapor, return condensation to the chamber, and improve flavor.
Now let’s focus on the coil. Mesh-interface coils can already be seen in many products. The cotton absorbs the e-liquid, and the mesh element connected by two leads heats more evenly after power is applied, rather than concentrating heat like a standard wire coil. One advantage is that flavor deterioration caused by buildup happens more slowly, making it more durable overall. That is why mesh coils generally last longer.
The tank uses a hidden airflow design, with airflow adjusted by rotating the base. Turning the base to the left reduces airflow, while turning it to the right increases airflow. However, because of the 0.2-ohm resistance design, it is clearly built for large vapor production. Even with the airflow reduced to the minimum, direct-lung inhaling is still easy.
It’s clear that the designer’s thinking was very rigorous. Both the top and bottom of the coil and the chimney adapter ring are equipped with sealing rings. Once tightened with the smooth threads, the seals are reinforced to prevent the troublesome leakage issues that users hate encountering during use.
There is virtually nothing lacking in the overall workmanship and design of the Petrie DotTank. The 24mm body increases e-liquid capacity from 2ml on the first generation to 3.5ml, completely solving the small-capacity drawback of the original tank. The upgrade to a mesh coil gives users a more direct, high-vapor flavor experience, and with its premium 24K gold-plated appearance, is it tempting you too?
