Poll Shows Significant Growth in the Number of E-Cigarette Users in the United States
According to a report cited by Tobacco Online from Huanqiu.com, a joint Reuters/Ipsos poll shows that compared with 2014, the number of people in the United States using vaping devices and similar products has grown significantly, but most of these consumers have not given up traditional cigarettes.
The survey, conducted from May 19 to June 14, found that among 5,679 American adults, 10% used vaping devices; that figure is four times the 2.6% estimate released by the U.S. government in 2013.
At the same time, recent tobacco industry statistics show that the number of vape shops in the United States has risen from almost zero a few years ago to at least 15,000 today.
The report said the sharp increase in the number of vaping device users in the United States is closely related to the decline in adult traditional cigarette consumers to 19%. This has prompted tobacco giants such as Altria Group, Lorillard, and Reynolds American to enter the vaping market.
Wells Fargo Securities analyst Herzog estimates that revenue in the U.S. vaping market will increase from US$2.5 billion in 2014 to US$3.5 billion in 2015.
