Ruler atomizer review
Transitioning from stock-coil atomizers to DIY atomizers is a process that the vast majority of vaping enthusiasts go through. Once users move on to DIY atomizers, their old stock-coil atomizers are either used only occasionally, left unused, or passed on
Transitioning from pre-made coil atomizers to DIY atomizers is a process that most e-cigarette users experience. Once users switch to DIY atomizers, their previous pre-made coil atomizers are either used occasionally, left to gather dust, or passed on to others. This has led to the emergence of DIY kits for pre-made coil atomizers. Many pre-made coil atomizers have launched corresponding DIY kits, but the actual performance often falls short of expectations, as there is usually a discrepancy in performance between pre-made coils and DIY coils, which is why this type of atomizer is not very popular.
Today, the subject of our review is a pre-made coil atomizer that comes with a DIY kit, launched by the well-known e-cigarette brand ADVKEN, called the "Ruler" atomizer. The packaging of the Ruler atomizer follows the style of its previous product, with the manufacturer's name, product name, product logo, and warning text printed on the front; the back of the packaging features a clear Chinese description. Inside the packaging, there is: one Ruler atomizer, one DIY kit, one spare oil tank, one flathead screwdriver, one accessory pack, one advertising card, and one oil cloth. The accessory pack includes: one Clapton coil, two spare electrode screws, two reset springs, and several spare O-rings. The Ruler atomizer has a diameter of 24mm, a length of 49mm, and weighs 59g (pre-made coil) or 63g (DIY kit). When using the larger DIY kit, it has a capacity of about 4ml, and when using the pre-made coil, it has a capacity of about 5ml, providing a large oil storage capacity. Compared to the current mainstream atomizer sizes, the Ruler atomizer is slightly longer, with a simple and traditional design.
The Ruler atomizer consists of five parts: a drip tip, an integrated top cap, an oil tank, a pre-made/DIY atomizer core, and a base.
The drip tip of the Ruler atomizer is made of PEI material, 510 specification, with an inner diameter of 6mm and a height of 7.8mm. The inner shape of the drip tip is funnel-shaped to facilitate condensation return and smoke diffusion.
The Ruler atomizer uses an integrated structure for the airway and top cap, with a sliding top cap opening method that makes refilling more convenient; the atomizer core and airway interface are dome-shaped, with a 6mm airway inner diameter and a 15mm airway length. These two sets of data determine that the Ruler atomizer provides concentrated smoke flavor, thorough mixing, and cooler smoke temperature.
The pre-made coil used in the Ruler atomizer is a 0.16Ω four-coil atomizer core, recommended for use at a power of 60-80W. The overall craftsmanship of the atomizer core is excellent, with four oil guiding holes, each corresponding to one coil, and the holes are wide, providing strong oil guiding capability.
The Ruler atomizer uses a single-coil DIY kit, which has the same core structure as its sibling CP atomizer, both featuring a spring-loaded single-coil structure. This structure makes it simple and convenient to build coils; the actual inner diameter of the DIY atomizer chamber is 16.5mm, and the actual atomization space is 4.5mm, which determines that the Ruler atomizer will have a relatively concentrated flavor.
The base of the Ruler atomizer is a sunken type, allowing for maximum use of the last drop of e-liquid whether using a pre-made coil or a DIY kit; the base has two symmetrical adjustable airflow ports measuring 14*1.5mm; although the positive electrode column at the bottom of the base protrudes, it is still recommended to use this product on non-mechanical devices.
I used the SXMINI G Class to test the Ruler atomizer.
The drip tip of the Ruler atomizer has a moderate fit with the lips, providing a good wrapping feel. During daily use, the lips will have slight contact with the top cap.
When using the pre-made coil, whether at the minimum 60W or maximum 80W, even with the airflow fully open, the atomizer's draw resistance does not feel empty; it is smooth and comfortable to inhale. Using a power of 75W in standard mode, after taking 20 puffs with a 5-second interval, the temperature at the top cap rose from 32°C to 47°C, feeling warm and within the normal acceptable range; there was no occurrence of burnt coils due to insufficient oil guiding; each puff's smoke flavor performance was consistent, accurately restoring the flavor of the e-liquid, with concentrated smoke and decent layering, though the flavor was slightly mild, placing the pre-made coil's flavor performance above average.
When using the DIY kit, I selected: NI80 26G*2+36G Clapton 3.0mm diameter 5 turns single coil with a resistance of 0.32Ω. Keeping the testing device the same and using a power of 40W in standard mode, after taking 20 puffs with a 5-second interval, the temperature at the top cap rose from 30°C to 37°C, feeling slightly warm and within the normal acceptable range; there was no occurrence of burnt coils due to insufficient oil guiding; the smoke flavor, especially in terms of restoring the flavor of the e-liquid, smoke flavor concentration, and layering, performed better than the pre-made coil, with overall performance being quite excellent.
The Ruler atomizer allows novice users to transition from pre-made coils to DIY coils at zero cost. Its conventional design makes it widely acceptable, and the simple coil-building method of the DIY kit results in almost zero learning costs for novice users. Its excellent heat insulation and heat dissipation capabilities provide a great user experience. However, it is worth noting that the atomizer's handling of condensation is not ideal, as condensation may seep from the edges of the top cap after a certain period of use.
