Hohhot Railway Police Issue First Fine for Smoking on a High-Speed Train
Inner Mongolia Morning News reported that on August 30, Hohhot Railway Police dealt with a case of a passenger smoking on a high-speed train, imposing an administrative fine of 600 yuan on passenger Jia. This is the first fine issued by Hohhot Railway Police for smoking on a high-speed train since the launch of the high-speed train service on January 8, 2015.
On August 30 at 10:40 AM, the D6769 train from Jining South to Baotou was running between Zhuozi East and Hohhot East when the smoke detector alarm went off at the connection between carriages 2 and 3. Fire department personnel from Hohhot Railway Police and train staff rushed to the connection and found a middle-aged male passenger smoking. Upon seeing the police, the man quickly extinguished his cigarette.
The man, surnamed Jia, boarded the train at Zhuozi East Station, intending to travel to Hohhot. Although he heard the announcement prohibiting smoking on the train, he could not resist his craving and decided to smoke at the carriage connection, inadvertently triggering the smoke detector. According to the "Railway Safety Management Regulations" and the "Procedures for Administrative Cases Handled by Public Security Organs," the railway police imposed a 600 yuan administrative fine on Jia.
Hohhot Railway Police remind all passengers that smoking on high-speed trains not only causes air pollution and harms passengers' health but also affects travel safety. Passengers must adhere to laws, regulations, and relevant rules, and refrain from smoking on high-speed trains.
