Regulating the Vaping Industry: The Fight Against Counterfeiting Continues
With the rise of the vaping industry, some companies and individuals saw a business opportunity and, lacking any real R&D or innovation capabilities, turned to the illegal manufacturing and sale of counterfeit products. This has not only cast a shadow over “Made in China” because of inferior goods, but has also caused huge losses for innovative companies that have invested heavily in research and development, putting the entire industry at risk.
Not long ago, the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau (Public Security Police Detachment) shut down a counterfeit e-cigarette factory in Shajing, Bao’an.

As the on-site photos show, the fake factory had a full set of counterfeit materials and tools, covering everything from the assembly and sealing of e-cigarette parts to final product packaging.
It is also clear that the production environment in this counterfeit factory was extremely crude. The quality of products made in such conditions is deeply concerning, and they pose serious safety risks. Once these products enter the market, they can cause serious harm both to brand reputation and to consumer health and safety.

Industrial development depends on product innovation and basic research, while innovative R&D depends on strong intellectual property protection. In the vaping industry, many companies and brands in recent years have joined forces with police in Shenzhen, Dongguan, and other areas to combat counterfeiting and the sale of fake products, actively protecting their rights and cracking down hard on counterfeiters. This shows that both enterprises and government departments are placing increasing importance on intellectual property protection.
To jointly combat counterfeit and substandard products, regulate the operation of e-cigarette products, and protect the physical and mental health of minors, the Bao’an Bureau of the Shenzhen Municipal Administration for Market Regulation and the Bao’an District Tobacco Monopoly Bureau of Shenzhen also jointly organized the event “Practice Regulation, Protect the Future” — an anti-counterfeiting campaign targeting tobacco products, along with a legal education initiative on vaping control.
At 14:30 on September 24, the event was held at the plaza of Shenzhen Bao’an International West Bank Business Building, No. 19 Haixiu Road, Bao’an District. Speaking on the theme “Practice Regulation, Safeguard the Future,” Ao Weinuo, Secretary General of the China Electronic Cigarette Industry Committee, said that these eight words represent the development direction of the vaping industry. As a supporting organization for this event, the Electronic Cigarette Industry Committee sincerely invited all member companies to attend.
For everyone working in the vaping industry, maintaining the healthy development of the sector, valuing R&D innovation, and protecting intellectual property are responsibilities shared by all. Here, we once again call on conscientious companies across the entire industry chain to unite in fighting counterfeit products and to jointly promote a more standardized and healthier development of the vaping industry.
