RELX Alpha 2 Detailed Review and Pod Flavor Recommendations: Must-Read Before You Buy

I have been using the RELX Alpha 2 for a long time; it was one of the first products I purchased among the four generations of RELX, and I have encountered many peculiar situations worth discussing.

Just look at the wear on the device to know how long it has accompanied me...

1. Packaging

The outer packaging is a uniform white box with various colors of the device printed on it. Upon opening, the interior has a very technological feel, and it comes with two pods (one green bean + mint).

2. Device

The Alpha comes in four colors, and the design has shifted to a flatter shape. It is slightly heavier than the first generation (first generation 17g, second generation 22g, third generation 18g, fourth generation 19g). The breathing light has changed to a circular design, eliminating the cheap feel, and the charging port has been upgraded to a type-C interface that does not require distinguishing between positive and negative. The pod inlet has also been redesigned to allow insertion from either side, and the air intake hole has a hidden design to prevent issues with airflow when held. These improvements deserve full marks.

3. Pods

There are a total of 17 flavors, with 10 flavors being the same as the first generation. The official price for a pack of two 1.6ml pods is 99 yuan, which can last about 2 days, making it not cost-effective.

1. The 5.7mm three-bend airflow structure enhances flavor.

2. The hanging wall chamber locks in condensation.

From my six months of use, the first point shows that the flavor is almost indistinguishable from the first generation; the second point, however, has extended the airflow path, which enhances the condensation effect of the vapor, making it easier to draw in condensation during use.

However, this more complex structure is not conducive to preventing pod leakage. I once bought two packs of pods and lost three due to leakage, all of which were in my clothing pocket, leaving my clothes with a persistent pineapple beer smell, which was quite unpleasant.

Not only did I notice the severe leakage issue with the Alpha, but RELX also acknowledged this problem and recently released a straight airflow version of the second-generation pod, boasting "more quantity without extra cost." The image clearly shows the straight airflow design, which is completely different from the previous version.

Although the pod mouthpiece is flatter than the first generation, it is relatively wide and lacks curvature on both sides, resulting in a slight air leakage sensation while drawing. The vapor production is noticeably less than the first generation (the e-liquid is drawn into the hanging wall chamber, which may also be a concern for condensation).

In summary: many gimmicks, severe leakage, significant condensation, small vapor production, and no cost-effectiveness. The straight airflow version may improve things; I will conduct another review once I get my hands on the straight airflow pods.

Flavor Recommendations (personal subjective judgment):

[Tobacco] average restoration, sweet flavor

[Mint] 5% nicotine content combined with mint is harsh on the throat and lungs

[Pineapple Beer] high flavor and restoration

[Fruit Tea] fragrant and sweet, but a bit cool; excessive use can irritate the throat

[Mango] not tried, no comment

[Slow-Cooked Rock Sugar Pear] not tried, no comment

[Old Ice Pop] tastes like childhood

[Cola] can be overly sweet if used excessively

[Coffee] very harsh; I haven't seen anyone able to use it normally; it has a burnt taste

[White Peach Frozen Top Tea] good peach flavor balanced with tea, but still a bit cool

[Watermelon] slightly heavy on the artificial flavor

[Blueberry] strong blueberry aroma

[Perfumed Lemon Ice] does not reflect the sourness of lemon, but it is still enjoyable

[Passion Fruit Green Tea] the collision of sweet and sour passion fruit with green tea is very nice

[Green Bean Ice] RELX and ammo's green bean cannot be matched by other brands

[Lychee] heavy on the artificial flavor

[Mango Pomelo Sago] mango with a hint of creaminess and minty coolness

Overall Rating (out of 5): [As objective as possible, pod flavor is subjective, as everyone has different tastes]

Appearance: 4.5; modern design, beautiful breathing light

Color: 3; few colors, but each is a premium option

Craftsmanship: 4.5; solid build

Flavor: 4.5; almost all pods are enjoyable

Draw Resistance: 5; perfect draw resistance; avoid this model if you prefer a loose draw

Leakage Prevention: 1; three out of four leaked... unsure if the straight airflow version will improve this

Condensation: 2; ineffective condensation prevention design

Recommendation Index: 2
