U.S. Lung Illness Investigation May Be Linked to Unlicensed Black-Market Products, Not Regulated E-C

Recently, a very serious lung illness crisis occurred in the United States. The main reason it caused such alarm was the discovery of hundreds of patients who developed lung disease after using vaping devices. Even more seriously, deaths began to occur among these lung illness patients. This led many people to a misunderstanding—that e-cigarettes pose enormous harm to the human body and can quickly threaten people’s lives, even causing users to die rapidly.

When this crisis emerged, U.S. authorities treated it with extreme seriousness and began organizing relevant investigative departments to carry out a strict inquiry into the causes, including patients’ daily habits and related information. The final results showed that these lung illness patients had all used vaping products containing phenol-like substances, and that this was what led to their severe lung disease.

JUUL was also pushed into the spotlight during this crisis and faced widespread criticism. However, when the investigation results came out, people realized that JUUL had been wrongly blamed. JUUL prohibits the use of chemicals listed on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Harmful and Potentially Harmful Constituents (HPHCs) list or JUUL’s own list of prohibited ingredients, as well as substances considered carcinogenic, mutagenic, or reprotoxic (CMRs) under Annex VI of the EU Classification, Labeling and Packaging Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008. Therefore, it does not contain inferior substances such as phenols.

In today’s vaping market, legitimate products like JUUL do not contain ingredients such as phenols. Only some black-market sellers, in pursuit of higher profits, knowingly produce vaping products that are extremely harmful to the human body. This not only deprives people of the right to healthier alternatives, but also disrupts the vaping market and creates a false impression of e-cigarettes.

JUUL has always regarded product quality and safety as its responsibility and is committed to protecting the interests of adult smokers. This is also one of the reasons why JUUL was able to quickly regain consumer trust after the U.S. lung illness crisis.
